The Switzerland County Music Department took an educational trip to Memphis, Tennessee to learn more about music history recently.

There were 28 students, 13 parents and 2 teachers on the trip.

The first full day included a tour of the Rock ‘n Soul Museum; lunch on the famous Beale St.; a tour of the St. Blues Guitar Factory where students talked with music technicians who make the guitars; and a tour of the Stax Museum of American Soul and recording studio.

Everyone had a fun dinner at the Memphis Hard Rock Café and enjoyed the entertainment of a high school group from Canada.

The second day was spent at Graceland learning about the career of Elvis Presley. The group toured his home; saw the archives building; his vehicle collection; gold records and awards; his outfits; and his exhibit from Hawaii about his movie career.

Another stop was at the National Civil Rights Museum. The evening ended at America’s Incredible Pizza Company where all enjoyed unlimited pizza bar and then relaxed at their entertainment section playing video games, laser tag, bowling, 4-D adventure ride, and go-carts.

On the bus the students had fun playing trivia on Memphis and Music History led by director Jonathan Grice.
