A high speed motorcycle chase that began in Madison and came through Vevay on Monday afternoon ended with a crash near the Thiebaud Historic Farmstead west of Vevay.
Sirens blared around town on Monday afternoon just as school was dismissing, as officers from the Madison Police Department chased a man riding a motorcycle at a high rate of speed east on State Road 56 and into the town of Vevay. The pursuit began on Madison’s hilltop area; and soon officers from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department joined the chase.
Once in Switzerland County, the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department became involved, as did the Vevay Police Department.
According to witnesses, once the motorcycle entered Vevay, the rider attempted to turn north onto Ferry Street, and nearly lost control, coming close to striking the Swiss Inn at the northeast corner of Main and Ferry streets.
The rider then turned and began riding west, returning to River Road and riding back towards Madison.
Just outside of Vevay the rider crashed the motorcycle, and his injuries resulted in him being airlifted from the scene.
Officers have not yet released the name of the suspect; the reason for the pursuit; or his current medical condition.
