Milan wins first place clash in seventh


Rising Sun and Milan battled for first place in the 2016 Ohio River Valley Conference softball standings with Milan scoring twice in the final inning to post a 5-4 win on Friday, April 29th.

The Lady Shiners took a 1-0 lead as Chelsea Brown singled and went to second on a passed ball. Kelsey Romans’ sacrifice bunt moved Brown to third where she scored on a wild pitch.

Milan took a 2-1 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the inning.

Alex Dixon (3-for-3) doubled and scored on an error in the third.

Baylie Hunter doubled and scored on a two-run homer by Tiffany Vinup to tie the game in the fourth.

Vinup singled and went to second on a sacrifice by Sydney Bostic in the sixth. Claire Poling grounded out to send Vinup to third. Kyla Willhite singled home Vinup for the lead headed into the final inning.

Lexi Wert doubled and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. An infield error put Kami Morrissey on base and she scored the winning run on a gap shot to right by Dixon.

Jacqueline Stapleton and Vinup had two hits each for Rising Sun.

Vinup suffered the loss allowing seven hits and striking out five with just two earned runs.

Milan improved to 4-1 in ORVC play including two wins over Rising Sun (4-2).
