On Saturday, January 19th, the Switzerland County Middle School wrestling team traveled to Jeffersonville to compete in an open tournament along with 11 other schools.
Switzerland County had an outstanding day, with 10 of the team’s 15 wrestlers earn either first or second place – and two Pacer wrestlers picked up their first-ever wins.
Three Pacers earned first place honors: Casper Stow earned first place overall in the 110-pound division; Dustin Wallace earned first place overall in the 95-pound division; and Brad Ricketts earned first place in the 195-pound division.
Earning second place were Keegan Ray in the 85-pound division; Austin Dennis in the 100-pound division; Dalton Woodward in the 105-pound division; Tylor Lyons in the 110-pound division; Rio Gonzalez in the 115-pound division; Kobe Chatham in the 140-pound division; and Luke Compton in the 155-pound division.
Three wrestlers went 1-3 on the day, earning their first victories ever: Collin Bovard, Raymond Cuneo, and Donald Scudder.
Alex Powers and Shelby Romans also worked hard during the event, and gave the coaching staff everything they had.
This was the team’s first time in live competition, and the coaching staff was very pleased with the outcome.
