Middle School track teams complete season with ORVC meet at Rising Sun

The Switzerland County boys and girls track teams wrapped up their seasons on Monday night by participating in the ORVC conference track meet at Rising Sun High School. Tony Spoores coached the boys team this year, while Tara Justice coached the girls squad.

The boys team finished third overall in the meet, behind Rising Sun and Jac-Cen-Del and ahead of Milan, South Ripley, Southwestern, and Shawe.

The Pacers scored points in all but two events, and were led by eighth grader Kyle Green, who had an outstanding evening.

Kyle Green won the high jump, the long jump, and the hurdles; and also finished second in the 200-meter dash. In finishing second, he still broke the school record with a time of :25.4.

Nick Chase finished second in the shot put; and third place points were earned by the 400-meter and 800-meter relays teams of Nick Chase, Luke May, Chad Robinson, and Chase Wilson.

Phillip Bentle was fourth in the 400-meter dash; Zack Rayls was fifth in the shot put; Josh Hon was fifth in the 1,600-meter run; Luke May was sixth in the hurdles; and Phillip Bentle was sixth in the 100-meter dash.

For the girls, the Lady Pacers finished fifth overall, highlighted by Karista Wengert running a personal best time of :19.0 in the hurdles in finishing third overall. She also finished fourth in the high jump with a personal best of 4’11” — five inches better than any jump during the season. Karista Wengert was part of the 400-meter relay team that finished fifth along with teammates Robbi Ann Meyer, Laci Daugherty, and Alex Wainscott.

Skylar Ballard was fifth in the shot put; Alex Wainscott was fifth in the 100-meter dash; and Kaitlyn Rayls was sixth in the shot put.

The middle school track teams completed their regular seasons last Wednesday night with a home meet against Rising Sun.

For the boys, two more records fell, as Kyle Green broke the long jump record with a leap of 18’ 2”; and the 800-meter relay team of Nick Chase, Luke May, Chad Robinson, and Chase Wilson established a new school record with a time of 1:52.38.

Kyle Green also won the high jump and the hurdles, and finished second in the 200-meter dash. Other second places were earned by Stephen Todd in the discus; Nick Chase in the shot put; and Phillip Bentle in the 400-meter dash.

Third place finishers included: Luke May in the hurdles; Phillip Bentle in the 100-meter dash; Josh Hon in the 1,600-meter run; and Tray Meyer in the 800-meter run.

In the girls meet:

Karista Wengert had an outstanding meet, finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles and also in the high jump. Skylar Ballard was second in the shot put; Kim Cox was second in the discus; and Alex Wainscott was second in the 100-meter dash.

Robbi Ann Meyer was third in the 110-meter hurdles; Kaitlyn Rayls was third in the shot put; Laci Daugherty was third in the long jump; and Beth Abbott was third in the 800-meter run.
