Middle School girls track captures invitational championship

The Switzerland County Middle School girls track team captured the championship of the Switzerland County Invitational Meet last Friday night – fighting through rainy weather to secure the title.

The Lady Pacers finished with a team score of 61 to outdistance second place Southwestern, which finished with 48 points. Rising Sun was third with 39; and Jac-Cen-Del was fourth with 24.

Individually, Switzerland County’s Bre Ricketts earned the “Most Valuable Participant” award for winning the high jump with a height of 4’7″; the 100-meter hurdles in a time of :17.73; finishing fourth in the long jump; and finishing third as part of the 400-meter relay team, which also included Cayli Chase, Lauren Haskell, and Kayla Hall.

Other outstanding individual efforts were turned in by Emily White, who earned three first place ribbons: winning the long jump with a distance of 13’7 3/4″, the 100-meter dash in a time of :14.24, and the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:08.94.

Robin Furnish also had an outstanding night, establishing a new school record in winning the 1,600-meter run in a time of 6:10.31.

Taryn Parr capped the Lady Pacer blue ribbon finishes by winning the 800-meter run in a time of 2:46.83.

Olivia Hewitt finished second in the high jump and Robin Furnish finished second in the 800-meter run; Eve Galbreath was third in the shot put and Paige Freeman was third in the 1,600-meter run; Olivia Hewitt was fourth in the 400-meter dash and Paige Sawyer was fourth in the 200-meter dash; Eve Galbreath was fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, and Sam Reynolds was fifth in the discus.

Last Wednesday night the Lady Pacers defeated Madison in a dual meet by a score of 67-33.

Emily White and Robin Furnish each had big nights, winning two individual events and also participating in a winning relay team.

Emily White won the long jump with a distance of 13′ 4″ and the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:10.49; while Robin Furnish won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 6:14.28 and the 800-meter run in a time of 2:50.82.

Both girls were a part of the winning 1,600-meter relay team, along with Olivia Hewitt and Cayli Chase, which won in a time of 5:03.36.

Susie Reyes was first in the shot put with a distance of 24′ 7″; Olivia Hewitt was first in the high jump with a height of 4′ 5″; and Bre Ricketts was first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of :17.78. The 400-meter relay team of Cayli Chase, Lauren Haskell, Kayla Hall, and Bre Ricketts also earned first place with a time of :58.75.

Second places were earned by Susie Reyes in the discus; Bre Ricketts in the high jump; Megan Dasis in the 100-meter hurdles; Olivia Hewitt in the 400-meter dash; Taryn Parr in the 800-meter run; and Paige Sawyer in the 200-meter dash.

Third place points were earned by Bre Ricketts in the long jump; Bri Meli in the high jump; Emily White in the 100-meter dash; and Paige Freeman in the 1,600-meter run.

On Monday night the Lady Pacers hosted their final home meet of the year, and defeated Southwestern in a dual meet by a score of 55-45.

First place finishes were turned in by Eve Galbreath in the shot put with a distance of 28′ 10 1/4″, and in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of :18.07; Olivia Hewitt in the high jump with a height of 4′ 6″; Robin Furnish in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 6:12.27; and Taryn Parr in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:51.29.

Earning second places were: Sam Reynolds in the discus; Bre Ricketts in the high jump, long jump, and 100-meter hurdles; Taryn Parr in the 1,600-meter run; Robin Furnish in the 800-meter run; and Emily White in the 100-meter dash and the 400-meter dash.

Also finishing second was the 400-meter relay team of Cayli Chase, Lauren Haskell, Kayla Hall, and Bre Ricketts; and the 1,600-meter relay team of Robin Furnish, Cayli Chase, Olivia Hewitt, and Emily White.

Third place points were earned by Susie Reyes in the discus; Tess Stoops in the high jump; Lauren Haskell in the 100-meter dash; Bri Meli in the 800-meter run; and Paige Sawyer in the 200-meter dash.

On Tuesday night the Lady Pacers suffered their first loss of the season in a three-team meet with South Dearborn and Rising Sun. South Dearborn won the meet with a score of 62; followed by Switzerland County with 38 and Rising Sun with 26.

Although the team was disappointed to lose for the first time; Robin Furnish provided a highlight by again establishing a new school record in finishing second overall in the 1,600-meter run – this time with a clocking of 6:09.00.

Bre Ricketts was a double winner for the Lady Pacers, winning the high jump with a height of 4′ 10″ and the 100-meter hurdles in a time of :17.84.

Second place finishers for Switzerland County included Eve Galbreath in the shot put and the 100-meter hurdles; Susie Reyes in the discus; Emily White in the long jump and the 400-meter dash; and the 1,600-meter relay team of Robin Furnish, Cayli Chase, Olivia Hewitt, and Emily White.

Third place was earned by Taryn Parr in the 800-meter run; and fourth place finishers included Susie Reyes in the shot put; Olivia Hewitt in the high jump; Emily White in the 100-meter dash; Taryn Parr in the 1,600-meter run; and Paige Sawyer in the 200-meter dash.

The Lady Pacers now turn their attention to the ORVC Conference Meet, which will be held this Monday evening, May 11th, at Madison High School. The meet begins at 5 p.m.
