Led by two new school records, the Switzerland County Middle School girls track team captured the ORVC conference meet championship on Monday night at the Switzerland County track.
The Lady Pacers earned the title by amassing a team total of 97 points to outdistance second place Rising Sun, who finished with 91. Jac-Cen-Del was third with 62 points, followed by Southwestern with 47; South Ripley with 31; Milan with 23; and Shawe Memorial with 21.
Sixth grader Emily White had an outstanding meet for Switzerland County. She won the 400-meter dash in a school record time of 1:04.78; won the 200-meter dash; and was also part of the winning 1,600-meter relay team which, along with teammates Allie Mathews, Hayley South, and Kelly Kincaid, set a new school record with a time of 4:42.00.
Kelly Kincaid was a double winner in Monday’s meet, earning first place in the 100-meter hurdles to go along with her relay title.
Monica Helton earned second place in the shot put and Hayley South was second in the 800-meter run.
Third places were earned by Monica Helton in the discus; Bre Hinman in the 800-meter run; Emily White in the 100-meter dash; Andrea Brogan in the 200-meter dash; and the 400-meter relay team of Hayley South, Kim Cox, Bre Hinman, and Andrea Brogan.
Kim Cox was fourth in the shot put; Courtney Tapp was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles; Alexis Carfield was fifth in the long jump; and Kelly Kincaid was sixth in the 400-meter dash.
“The girls did a fantastic job and we had some wonderful performances,” head coach Lesa McGarvey said. “I’m very proud of all of the girls and their efforts.”
