Middle School girls track team claims ORVC championship

The Switzerland County Girls track team continued its undefeated winning streak with an impressive win in the ORVC Conference on Monday night at the Switzerland County track.

Switzerland County won with 111 points, followed by South Ripley with 74 points; and Rising Sun was third with 71 points.

The Lady Pacers were led by eighth grader Aleiah Thomas, who won high jump (5′); the 100-meter dash (:14.11) -even when her shoe came off; the 200-meter dash (:29.25): and was part of the winning 400-meter relay team (:56.71).

Switzerland County also got a first place finish from Allison Furnish in the 100-meter hurdles with her first win of the year in that event (:18.70).

Second places were earned by Allison Furnish in the 400-meter dash (1:08.82); and the 1,600-meter relay team of Allison Furnish, Alisha Detmer, Kiley Flanders, and Lillian Northcutt (4:52.76).

McKenli Scudder was third in 100-meter dash (:14.42); the 200-meter dash (:29.84); and the long jump (12’6″). Kiley Flanders was third in the 800-meter run (2:51.05).

Keirstan Oeffinger was fourth in the 1,600-meter run (6:25); and Lillian Northcutt was fourth in the 400-meter dash (1:09.82).

Allison Detmer was fifth in hurdles (:19.67); and Alisha Detmer was fifth in the 1,600-meter run (6:31).

Kora Ferguson was sixth in discuss (54’11”).

“I’m very proud of my entire team,” Coach Michelle Detmer said. “This was the last meet of the season and it came too quickly for me. I have some true athletes with great work ethics that I hope will continue on with their running careers. I have some talented sixth and seventh graders that should fill in the gaps next year, so our future looks bright and I look forward to next year.”
