Middle School boys are conference champs; girls run to second

The Switzerland County Middle School boys and girls cross country teams participated in the Ohio River Valley Conference meet on Monday night at Hanover, and the boys team capped an outstanding season by winning the team event; and the girls also finished a great year by finishing second.

In the boys race, Switzerland County dominated the event, posting a team score of 20 to easily outdistance second place Rising Sun, who had a score of 82. Southwestern (83) was third; followed by South Ripley (87), Jac-Cen-Del (105), and Madison Shawe (149).

Individually, Switzerland County’s Anthony Dasis was second overall in a time of 11:48; and he was followed by a group of teammates.

Keegan Kincaid was third in a time of 11:53; Braden Burk was fourth in a time of 11:55; Anthony Dennis was fifth in a time of 12:01; and Nathan Smith was sixth in a time of 12:04.

The Pacers placed all seven of their runners in the top 12; as Quinn Meyer was 10th in a time of 12:36; and Jordan Bledsoe was 11th in a time of 12:38.

The girls race was a close one, as champion Southwestern outdistanced runner up Switzerland County by just seven points, 32-39. South Ripley (62) was third, followed by Jac-Cen-Del in fourth with 94.

The Lady Pacers were led by Bre Hinman, who finished fourth overall in a time of 13:29. Alexis Carfield was fifth in a time of 14:03; and Paige Freeman was seventh in 14:08.

Allie Mathews was 10th in 14:12; Kelly Kincaid was 13th in 14:25; Brianna Meli was 20th in 15:06; and Robin Furnish was 24th in 15:24.

Both teams participated last Thursday in the Jac-Cen-Del Invitational. The boys won their meet; while the girls finished third.

The boys recorded a team score of 20 to win the event, with Jennings County (81) second, and Jac-Cen-Del (88) third. Southwestern was fourth, followed by South Ripley, Rising Sun, Madison, Milan, North Decatur, Madison Shawe, and South Decatur.

Braden Burk was the first Pacer to cross the finish line, coming in second in a time of 10:38. He was followed by Anthony Dasis in third in a time of 10:50; Keegan Kincaid in fourth in a time of 10:53; Nathan Smith in fifth in a time of 11:04; and Anthony Dennis in sixth in a time of 11:07.

Jordan Bledsoe was 10th in 11:25; and Quinn Meyer was 16th in 12:01.

The girls finished third with 84 points; trailing champion Southwestern (22) and runner up Madison (77). Jennings County was fourth, followed by South Ripley, Jac-Cen-Del, South Decatur, North Decatur, Rising Sun, Milan, and Madison Shawe.

Bre Hinman was the leading runner for the Lady Pacers, finishing 10th in a time of 12:31. Allie Mathews was 12th in a time of 12:45; Alexis Carfield was 15th in a time of 12:55; Robin Furnish was 23rd in a time of 13:28; Paige Freeman was 24th in a time of 13:32; Kelly Kincaid was 25th in a time of 13:38; and Brianna Meli was 28th in a time of 13:49.
