Memorial Day program delayed

Memorial Day program delayed

Due to the ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic, the annual Memorial Day program is being delayed.

The program is hosted on alternating years by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, and this year the program was being coordinated by the local VFW Post #5396.

But, at the recommendation of the National VFW Department, the local chapter is following guidelines and will not be holding the Memorial Day service at this time. Traditionally, the service is held on the morning of Memorial Day, which is this Monday, May 25th.

The members of the VFW stress that the program isn’t being canceled, and will be held at some point later this summer as restrictions and health guidelines will allow it.

Along with the delay in the Memorial Day service, the members of the American Legion Auxiliary have announced that they will not be handing out poppies this weekend, as has been tradition. The American Legion Auxiliary will be doing its distribution at a later date, as well.
