Rising Sun will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade and Services this Monday, May 25th.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m.; followed by the service on the Ohio County Courthouse lawn.
Everyone is invited to come to the parade and observance and honor those soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom.
There have been many veterans who passed on since last year. Photos here show color guards performing the 21-gun salute at the recent funeral of Paul Leive of Rising Sun.
Leive was one of the first WW II veterans to travel to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington DC. He was among those setting the wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Leive was part of Tristate Honor Flight. In this photo, his shirt conveys his emotions: “If you can read this thank a teacher. If you can read it in English thank a veteran.”
