Mardi Gras Queen and King

Switzerland County candidates Katie and Lance Collier were crowned as the Queen and King of Mardi Gras on Saturday night at the Lawrenceburg Event Center. The fundraising event was held for the Child Advocacy Center in Dillsboro; with each county having a Queen and King nominee, and those couples raised money for the CAC as a way of getting votes – with the most money raised by candidates resulting in them being crowned. The Colliers set a record for fundraising by a county in the four years that the event has taken place, as they raised $26,539. Overall, the Queen and King candidates from all of the counties participating raised over $58,000, according to Cindy Wagner, director of the CAC; and the event overall also set a record, as Wagner said that once all the bills are paid, the CAC stands to bring in over $100,000. Katie and Lance have been fundraising for the event for several months, seeking donations from organizations and churches; holding a UTV ride; and selling halfcourt shot chances at varsity basketball games, among other things. Congratulations on this accomplishment, and for helping a great cause.
