‘Make a Splash’ at the library! Summer Reading Program starts

“Make a Splash” this summer at the Switzerland County Public Library.

The 2010 Summer Reading Program runs from June 14th to July 24th and provides fun for all ages.

Registration begins this Saturday, June 14th at 9 a.m. and is open to all county children ages infant through high school. Each child signing up will receive a book bag, bookmark, and paperback book at registration to keep.

For each level completed, children will receive an incentive prize. Other prizes will be awarded throughout the program.

The library is planning many programs so that participants can “Make a Splash:

- Thursday, June 17th: “Toddler Time” at 10 a.m.

– Thursday, June 17th: “Library Luau” at 5 p.m., including luau crafts, food, and fun; and everyone is urged to wear a Hawaiian shirt.

– Tuesday, July 6th: “Pirate Paaarty” at 1 p.m., including pirate crafts, food, and fun; and everyone is invited to dress like a pirate.

- Friday, July 23rd: “Water Wipeout” at 1 p.m., featuring many fun water-filled games; and everyone is invited to bring their swimming suit and be prepared to make a splash!

– Monday, August 2nd: End of the Summer Reading party at 5 p.m., featuring Mike Hemmelgarn, comedian, juggler, and ventriloquist.

The library is also planning activities where families and adults can “Make a Splash”:

– Monday, June 14th through Friday, July 2nd: “Buried Book Treasure” for families. Pick up a sheet and try to figure out the buried treasure. Those who figure it out will be entered into a drawing to win four tickets to a Cincinnati Reds game.

– Monday, June 14th through Friday, July 16th: “Water Wisdom” for families. Pick up one sheet at a time, then turn it in and receive the next sheet. Try and complete all three and be entered into a drawing to win two free tickets to the Newport Aquarium.

– Monday, June 14th through Saturday, July 24th: “Beach Bingo” for adults. Complete a bingo and be entered in a drawing to win a bag filled with goodies.

The library will also be having a weekly “winning wave” drawing for children and adults. In order to participate in the weekly wave, an individual must be signed up for one of the summer reading programs or activities. All programs are free of charge.
