Middle School honors athletes at end of year athletic banquet

Switzerland County Middle School held its end of the year athletic banquet last Tuesday night.

Principal John Druba welcomed everyone to the event; and the invocation was given by Shaun Holliday.

Following the meal, coach presented awards in various sports:

- In soccer, coach Courtney Dayadharum awarded the Most Improved Award to Lily Williams; the Best Defense Award to Kyle Whitham; and the Best Offense Award to Keegan Morris and Justin Chatham.

- Coach Larry Gault presented awards for both girls and boys cross country. The girls Most Valuable Award was earned by Leah Anders; the girls Most Improved Award went to Zoe Cole; and the girls Rookie Award went to Keirsten Oeffinger.

The boys Most Valuable Award went to Leon Kinne; the boys Most Improved Award was presented to Baylie Bennet; and the boys Rookie Award went to Aaron Scudder.

- The sixth and seventh grade girls volleyball team was coached by Jennifer South, who is now teaching in Arizona. The Most Valuable Sixth Grader was Emma Sullivan; the Most Improved Sixth Grader was Ally Furnish; the Most Valuable Seventh Grader was Delanie Swanson; and the Most Improved Seventh Grader was Mary Streett.

- Coach Asia Covington presented awards for eighth grade volleyball. The Most Valuable Award went to Emerson Schroer; and the Most Improved Award went to Rylee King.

- Sixth grade boys basketball awards were presented by Coach Rob Maust. The Best Defense Award went to Doug Pedraza; the Most Improved Award went to Coren Lynam; and the Mental Attitude Award went to Damien Breeck.

- Sixth grade girls basketball awards were presented by Coach Devin Scudder. The Best Defense Award went to Josie Meyer; the Most Improved Award went to Aleiah Thomas; and the Mental Attitude Award went to Emma Sullivan.

- Coach Adam Pietrykowski presented awards for seventh grade boys basketball. The Freethrow Award was earned by Tyler Konkle; the Mental Attitude Award went to A.J. Covington; and the Most Improved Award went to Morgan Gammons.

- Coach Corey Lay presented awards for seventh grade girls basketball. The Freethrow Award was earned by Hailey Gerster; the Mental Attitude Award went to Calleigh Powell; and the Most Improved Award went to Ariel Oeffinger.

- Eighth grade girls basketball awards were presented by Coach Gary Pavy. The Freethrow Award went to Emerson Schroer; the Most Improved Award went to Ashley Peelman; and the Mental Attitude Award went to Kalli Morton and Kinley Morton.

- Coach Larry Gault presented awards for eighth grade boys basketball. The Freethrow Award was earned by Justin Chatham; the Mental Attitude Award went to Justin Chatham; and the Most Improved Award went to Eyan Peelman.

- In middle school wrestling, Coach Mark Jackson presented the Most Improved Award to Tylor Lyon; and the Most Outstanding Award went to Dustin Wallace.

- Coach Regina Miles presented swim team awards. The Most Improved boy was Damion Sawyer; the Most Improved girl was Alex Edwards; the Mental Attitude Award went to Kailey Wiley; the Most Outstanding boy award went to Greyson Miles; and the Most Outstanding girl award went to Allison Furnish.

- In boys track, coach Shaun Holliday presented the Most Valuable Distance Runner award to Aaron Scudder; the Most Valuable Sprinter award was earned by Keegan Morris; and the Most Valuable Field Event participant award went to Austin South.

- In girls track, coach Casie Jesop presented the Most Valuable Distance Runner award to Leah Anders; the Most Valuable Sprinter award was earned by Emma Giglio; and the Most Valuable Field Event participant award went to McKenli Scudder.

- Ryan Jesop presented awards for boys and girls golf. The Most Improved boy golfer award went to Lucas Sheets; the Most Outstanding boy golfer award went to Kenyon Bledsoe; the Most Improved girl golfer award went to Danni Pennington; and the Most Outstanding girl golfer award went to Amanda Truitt.
