5/8/2014 3:00:00 PM Lynx wrestlers wrap up great season
The Lynx wrestling club capped off a spectacular season with phenomenal performance in Avon, Indiana, at the freestyle state finals.
The club took 10 wrestlers to the finals; and placed five out of the 10 on the podium with seventh place finishes or above.
Once again, Ethan Rose led the way for the club, earning third place at the pee-wee 45-pound class. He also managed to score the most team points for the club enabling the Lynz team to come home 30th out of over a 90 teams who were entered.
Most impressive about this finished is that the Lynx squad accomplished this with just 10 wrestlers.
"The first place team had over 50 kids wrestling for them, so we held our own very well," Coach Mark Jackson said.
Lynx team members Dakota Fields, Cody Wallace, Gabe Rose and Wyldon Washnock each finished seventh overall after losing tough first round matches; and Rio Gonzalez managed to pin the 126-pound state folkstyle state champion in 43-seconds, but ended up with a mild concussion that took him out the rest of the day.
"This has been a very good year for our club," Coach Jackson said, "We would like to thank our sponsors who help out with fundraising and other needs for the club:Vevay Subway; Vevay Shop Quik/BP; Chris Bolton Construction; Larry's Auto; Gold Star Chili in Versailles; and - most importantly - the parents."
Coach Jackson said that the Switzerland County wrestling program has taken a lot of positive steps forward over the past couple months with the club performance and the little league wrestling coming in second place at Lide White Boys and Girls club in Madison 2 weeks ago.
