For the first time in school history, both the boys and girls varsity track teams from Switzerland County High School have earned the championship of the ORVC track meet in the same year.
The double victory came last Thursday night on the Switzerland County track, as the both squads dominated their conference foes to claim the championships.
The boys won going away, finishing with a team score of 154 to finish ahead of second place South Ripley, which had 89 points. Rising Sun was third with 82 points; Southwestern had 52; Milan had 37; Jac-Cen-Del finished with 26; and Madison Shawe had 25.
In the girls meet, the Lady Pacers finished with a score of 135 points to put away Southwestern, which finished second with 121 points. Rising Sun was third with 61 points; followed by Jac-Cen-Del with 56; South Ripley with 44; Milan with 42; and Madison Shawe with five.
In the boys event, the meet clearly belonged to Switzerland County senior Clint Swanson, who earned three individual and one relay championship.
He won the 100-meter dash in a time of :11.06; the 200-meter dash in a time of :22.89; the long jump with a personal-best distance of 20' 3"; and teamed with Zack Rodgers, Ben Curran, and Chase Richards to win the 400-meter relay in a season-best time of :46.57.
Switzerland County's other individual conference champion was Braden Burk, who was a three-time winner; individually winning the 800-meter run in a personal-best time of 2:02.
He also was a part of two ORVC title winning relay teams; joining T.J. White, Dakota Taylor and Talen Taylor in winning the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 8:45; and running with T.J. White, Dakota Taylor, and Justus Powell to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:47.
Braden Burk also finished second in the 1,600-meter run.
Other second place finishers for Switzerland County included: T.J. White in the 400-meter run; Talen Taylor in the 3,200-meter run; Ben Curran in both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; and Alex Curran in the high jump and the shot put.
Third place points were earned by Alex Curran in the long jump; and fourth places were earned by Justus Powell in the 400-meter dash; Talen Taylor in the 1,600-meter run; and Alex Curran in the discus.
Earning fifth places were: Zack Rodgers in the 200-meter dash and the discus and Dakota Taylor in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; sixth places were earned by Chase Richards in the 100-meter dash; T.J. White in the 800-meter run; Dakota Taylor in the 110-meter high hurdles; and Ben Curran in the high jump; and Bradley Cox finished seventh in the shot put.
The Pacers are in action tonight (Thursday) when they participate in the Sectional meet at Jeffersonville High School.
The girls conference meet was highlighted by a record breaking night by the Lady Pacer 400-meter relay team. Team members Bre Ricketts, Emily Evans, Paige Sawyer and Megan Dasis covered the distance in a time of :52.71 to break the existing mark.
Also earning conference championships were Emily White, who won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:34.09; and Olivia Hewitt, who won the high jump with a height of 5' 0".
The 3,200-meter relay team of Jade Mullins, Paige Ridener, Robin Furnish, and Emily White also brought home a conference title, winning their event in a time of 10:57.47.
Second places were earned by Robin Furnish in the 1,600-meter run; Paige Sawyer in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; Jade Mullins in the 800-meter run; Susie Reyes in the discus; and Eve Galbreath in the shot put.
Finishing third were: Megan Dasis in the 200-meter dash; Robin Furnish in the 3,200-meter run; Bre Ricketts in the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump; and Susie Reyes in the shot put.
Also finishing third was the 1,600-meter relay team of Jade Mullins, Taylor Topie, Paige Sawyer, and Emily White.
Fourth place points were earned by Jade Mullins in the 400-meter dash; Bre Ricketts in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; Paige Ridener in the 3,200-meter run; and Eve Galbreath in the 100-meter hurdles.
Finishing fifth in the meet were: Megan Dasis in the 100-meter dash and Emily Evans in the 200-meter dash.
The Lady Pacers wrapped up their team season on Tuesday night by participating in the Jeffersonville Sectional.
