The boys track team from Switzerland County Middle School finished second overall last Friday night in the Vevay Newspapers Invitational, but the meet still held some impressive Pacer performances.
Eighth grader Hunter Hayes established a new school record in the 400-meter dash, finishing second overall in a time of :57.31. He also recorded two first place finishes, winning the long jump with a distance of 17' 6" and the high jump with a leap of 5' 7"; and teamed with Cameron Papucci, Nick Braun, and Cory Proffitt to finished second in the 1,600-meter relay.
Overall, Rising Sun won the invitational with a total of 88 points; followed by Switzerland County with 60; Jac-Cen-Del with 21; and Southwestern with 15.
The other first place finish for Switzerland County came in the 110-meter hurdles, where Nick Braun won in a time of :18.34.
Second place finishers for the Pacers included Brody Splain in the 200-meter dash; and the 400-meter relay team of Tristan Griffis, Jordan Lay, Justin Chatham, and Brody Splain.
Finishing third were Brody Splain in the 100-meter dash; Nick Braun in the 400-meter dash; Tristan Griffis in the 200-meter dash; Kyle Whitham in the discus; and Brad Rickett in the shot put.
Earning fourth place points were Cameron Papucci in the 1,600-meter run; Max Anders in the long jump; and Cory Proffitt in the high jump.
Fifth places were earned by Cameron Papucci in the 110-meter hurdles and the 800-meter run; Justin Chatham in the 100-meter dash; Devin Harris in the discus; and Cory Proffitt in the shot put.
On Monday night the Pacers won a three-way meet with Southwestern and Madison Shawe.
The Pacers finished with 73 points to easily outdistance Madison Shawe with 36 and Southwestern with 17.
Hunter Hayes continued his outstanding season, recording four first place finishes on the night. He won the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:01; the discus with a throw of 83' 5 1/2"; the long jump with a leap of 16' 10 1/2"; and the high jump with a height of 5' 4".
Brody Splain was a triple winner, finishing first in the 100-meter dash with a time of :12.58; winning the 200-meter dash in a time of :25.76; and teaming with Tristan Griffis, Cory Proffitt, and Justin Chatham to win the 400-meter relay in a time of :53.20.
Nick Braun won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of :19.47; and Brad Rickett won the shot put with a distance of 34' 4".
Second places were earned by Cameron Papucci in the 1,600-meter run; Kyle Whitham in the discus; Cory Proffitt in the shot put; Max Anders in the high jump; and the 1,600-meter relay team of Cameron Papucci, Nick Braun, Cory Proffitt, and Leon Kinne.
Third place finishers included Justin Chatham in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash; Cameron Papucci in the 800-meter run; and Tristan Griffis in the high jump.
