Lady Pacers fall in opener of NAS tourney

The Switzerland County Lady Pacers started their post-Christmas journey in the North American Stainless Tournament held last week at Carroll County High School, and in the Lady Pacers opening game against Gallatin County, there wasn't much post-Christmas cheer.

Gallatin County jumped out early and never looked back, taking the opening round win by a final score of 68-31 and sending Switzerland County into the consolation bracket.

The game opened with both teams trading baskets to have a 2-2 tie early, but the Lady Wildcats then went on a 19-0 run over the rest of the first quarter, and when the first eight minutes was over, Gallatin County would hold a commanding 21-2 advantage.

If the 21-point first period outburst wasn't enough, Gallatin County exploded for 26 points in the second quarter behind the play of sisters Hannah and Brooke Dossett.

Switzerland County got its offense back on track in the second period, scoring 11 points, but it wasn't enough to match the Lady Wildcat firepower, and at the half Gallatin County led by a 47-13 mark.

Things didn't get much better coming out of the halftime break, as Switzerland County matched the Gallatin County squad in the period, with both teams scoring 13 points, but with a quarter to play, Gallatin County still held a 60-26 lead.

The fourth quarter saw the offense slow down, with the Lady Pacers being outscored by an 8-5 count, which made the final score 68-31 in favor of Gallatin County.

Eve Galbreath led Switzerland County offensively, scoring nine points; while Makenzie Mathews had an outstanding game, finishing with eight.

Brooke Todd, Kelsi Konkle, and Hailee Lay each finished with four points in the contest; while Bre Ricketts added two.

Hannah Dossett led Gallatin County with 25 points; and Brooke Dossett had 18 points.
