making strides towards great year
Here's a recap of recent meets involving the Switzerland County High School boys and girls cross country teams:
- On Saturday, September 8th, the teams participated in the Jac-Cen-Del Invitational.
In the girls race, the Lady Pacers ran to a fifth place finish, with Brownstown Central earned the overall team title.
Individually for Switzerland County: Robin Furnish finished third overall in a time of 21:49; and Paige Ridener ran a season-best time of 22:31. Jaclyn Hart covered the course in a time of 29:11; Adeli Kinne ran a time of 29:30; and Liz Nibarger finished in a time of 38:33.
In the boys race, the Pacers finished fifth overall, as Brownstown Central also won that race.
Talen Taylor led the Pacers with a sixth place overall finish in a time of 18:18; and Sean Oatman was close behind, finishing seventh overall in a time of 18:36.
Mikhail Cole ran a time of 20:06; Matt Yocum covered the course in a time of 21:21; Zack Rodgers finished in a time of 21:22; and Michael Scott ran a time of 21:45.
- Jennings County High School hosted the 'Big Blue Invitational' on Tuesday, September 11th, with 12 local schools participating in the cross country event.
The Switzerland County girls ran a full team and finished in eighth place overall. Batesville won the meet.
Individually for Switzerland County, Robin Furnish finished eighth with a time of 22:00. Other runners for the Lady Pacers included Paige Ridener in a time of 22:40; Jaclyn Hart in a time of 29:26; Adeli Kinne in a time of 29:40; and Liz Nibarger in a time of 36:38.
The Switzerland County boys team finished in ninth place overall in the meet.
For the Pacers, Talen Taylor led the way, finishing in 13th place in a time of 18:33. Other Switzerland County runners included: Sean Oatman in a time of 19:20; Mikhail Cole in a time of 20:50; Matt Yocum in a time of 22:11; Zack Rodgers in a time of 22:25; and Michael Scott in a time of 22:41.
- The Switzerland County teams participated in the very fast but difficult course at the South Dearborn Invitational, which was held on Saturday, September 15th.
A total of 19 schools competed making a very tight course with an average of 113 runners for both the boys and girls races.
Not only did both Pacer teams have runners in the top 10 for Division II, but all ran either a personal best or a season best time.
In the girls race, Oldenburg Academy won the race as a team with Switzerland County running to a fifth place finish.
In leading Switzerland County, Paige Ridener ran a personal best time of 21:41 for 12th place overall; as did Liz Nibarger with a time of 33:19 for 50th place. 'Season Best' times included: Robin Furnish in ninth place in a time of 21:17; Jaclyn Hart in 36th place in a time of 26:28; and Adeli Kinne in 39th in a time of 27:13.
The Switzerland County boys team also finished in fifth place overall with the win going to South Ripley.
Personal Best times for the Pacers included: Talen Taylor in fourth place overall in a time of 17:26; Matt Yocum in 29th place overall in a time of 19:56; Zack Rodgers in 33rd place overall in a time of 20:31.
'Season Best' runs included Sean Oatman in eighth place overall in a time of 18:04; and Mikhail Cole in 25th place overall in a time of 19:24.
"We are still running without our number one runner for the boys and our number three runner for the girls, which is very encouraging," head coach Adam Cole said. "Every runner at South Dearborn dropped significant time, and we gained a lot of ground toward catching the favorites in our conference. I am very proud of every performance."
