Hanover College sophomore Olivia Hewitt was crowned as the 2014 Edelweiss Princess of the Swiss Wine Festival during the pageant held on Sunday night.

The competition, which was held in the cafeteria of Switzerland County High School, featured seven contestants; all of whom were competing for a part of $1,900 in scholarship money.

By winning the pageant, Olivia Hewitt earned a $1,000 scholarship. She was also honored by her fellow contestants by being named Miss Congeniality.

Olivia Hewitt is the daughter of Christy Cutter and David Hewitt; and was sponsored in the pageant by River Ridge Realtors, Christy Cutter, agent.

In high school, she was the Valedictorian of the Class of 2013; and participated in volleyball, swimming, and track. In swimming she earned Most Valuable Swimmer honors. She also served as President of the FFA for two terms; and was President of the Key Club and the FCA. She was awarded the Paul Ogle Scholarship. At Hanover she is a member of the Phi Mu sorority; and earned inclusion in the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society.

Her career plans are to graduate with honors with a degree in kinesiology and integrative physiology with a possible minor in Spanish; and attain a job in the medical field as an aquatics therapist. She also hopes one day to enter the mission field.

The first runner up in Sunday's pageant, earning a $500 scholarship, was Jacqueline Hensley.

She is the daughter of Bobby and Monica Hensley of Vevay, and was sponsored in the pageant by Detraz Services. She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School.

She currently ranks third academically in the senior class; and is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Club. She is a member of the varsity volleyball and swim teams, earning the Mental Attitude Award in swimming for two straight years and the jayvee serving award in volleyball. She was the fourth runner up in the Swiss Wine Festival Teen Princess Pageant.

Her career ambition is to attend college and pursue a degree in political science; and then attend law school and become an attorney.

Earning a $250 scholarship as the second runner up was Jaclyn Hart.

She was sponsored in this year's pageant by Shell's Ice Cream; and is the daughter of Dan and Trina Hart of near Pleasant. She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School.

She has earned the Outstanding 4-Her Award; was second runner up for Miss Switzerland County in 2014; and is a nine year member of the 4-H program. She is President of her 4-H club. In school, she will serve as the Senior Class President for the Class of 2015; is a member of student council; the English Academic Team; Business Professionals of America; and is captain of the bowling team.

Her career ambition is to earn a master's degree in business and either own her own franchise or be the CEO of an American-owned company.

Korah Taylor was honored as the third runner up in the pageant, earning a $100 scholarship.

She is the daughter of Andi and Joey Wainscott of near Fairview; and was sponsored in this year's pageant by Wai Back Forty Farms. She will be a sophomore this fall at Indiana State University in Terre Haute.

She has been very active in the Switzerland County 4-H program, earning Most Outstanding 4-Her honors; and she also volunteers with the 4-H program. She is an Honors Student; was the People's Choice winner in the 'Springtime of Hope' pageant; and was the recipient of the Linda Bennitt Scholarship. She enjoys reading, singing, dancing, and school.

Her career ambition is to graduate from Indiana State University and pursue a career as a criminal psychiatrist for the FBI.

The fourth runner up in the Edelweiss pageant was Erika Coy. She earned a $50 scholarship.

She will be a freshman this fall at Indiana University in Bloomington; and was sponsored in this year's pageant by State Farm Insurance, Jeni Scudder, agent. Erika is the daughter of Greg and Barb Coy of near Vevay.

At Switzerland County High School she served as President of the Senior Class; was Valedictorian of the Senior Class; and was the 2014 Queen of Hearts. She earned the Mental Attitude Award in the ORVC in both volleyball and basketball; was a delegate to Hoosier Girls State; and was active in Business Professionals of America; FCA; and the Olive Branch Baptist Church youth group; and volunteers with the Special Olympics.

She plans on attending Indiana University to pursue a degree in telecommunications.

Also competing in this year's Edelweiss Princess pageant was Mackenzie Anderson and Olivia Pavy.

This year's 43rd Swiss Wine Festival gets underway on Thursday, August 21st, and runs through Sunday, August 24th in the Paul Ogle Riverfront Park.
