Festival begins tonight with Edelweiss Teen Princess pageant
The 42nd Swiss Wine Festival starts tonight (Thursday) in the Paul Ogle Riverfront Park when the Edelweiss Teen Princess pageant is held at the Main Stage. The competition will begin at 8:15 p.m., and will feature 15 contestants. Everyone will be heading to the Paul Ogle Riverfront Park beginning tonight (Thursday) for four fun-filled days at the Swiss Wine Festival - and everything gets started tonight with the crowning of the Edelweiss Teen Princess on the Main Stage.

The pageant is scheduled to start at 8:15 p.m., just after the opening ceremonies, and will feature 15 contestants. The winner will join Princess Chelsea Duvall in reigning over this year's festival.

Here's a look at the contestants:

- RACHEL LEE ARD is a sophomore at Switzerland County High School and the daughter of Larry and Shannon Ard. She is being sponsored by S&S Grocery 2 in Pleasant.

She is a member of the varsity soccer and softball teams; and is on the competition cheerleading squad. She was the Vice President of her freshman class.

Her career goal is to attend Indiana University and pursue a career in the medical field and become a pediatrician.

- DESTINY JADE BROWN is the daughter of Misty Dermon and Anthony Brown, and is being sponsored in the pageant by the Golden Shear Barber Shop. She is a sophomore this fall at Switzerland County High School.

She is a cheerleader; is a member of the high school band, where she participates with the flag corps and also plays the flute; and she is also active in 4-H.

After high school, she plans on attending college to pursue a career as a pharmacist.

- KELSEY LYNN BUSH is a sophomore at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored in the pageant by Edens Auto Repair. She is the daughter of Leeann and Denton Bush.

She enjoys shopping, track, cheerleading, music, and hanging out with her friends and family. She also enjoys couponing with her mom.

She would like to attend college to become a physical therapist and do photography on the side.

- KYLIE JO CARFIELD is the daughter of Joe and Michelle Carfield, and is a sophomore this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Vevay Newspapers.

She is a member of the student council; the Switzerland County High School Band; cheerleading; and is a member of the softball team.

She plans on attending college and pursuing a career in education.

- SAMANTHA MARIE CHRISTERSON is being sponsored in the pageant by the Eye Care Group, and is the daughter of Rachael and Darrin Christerson. She is a sophomore at Switzerland County High School this fall.

She earned varsity letters in soccer, swimming, softball, and cheerleading; and is a member of the student council and the Business Professionals of America.

Her career goal is to go to a college in Maine that focuses on marine biology; and hopes to get a job at an aquarium or zoo.

- LAUREN ABIGAIL CHRISTMAN is a freshman this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored in the pageant by the Old School Cafe. She is the daughter of Roger and Dawn Christman.

She is active with the student council; and is also a member of the Switzerland County 4-H program. She enjoys soccer, volleyball, photography, and volunteering at the animal shelter.

She plans on attending college and studying to be a lawyer practicing either criminal or family law.

- SUMMER JEWELL DICKERSON is a freshman this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is the daughter of Mark Dickerson and Bridgette Miller. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Cocoa Tan.

She is a member of the Business Professionals of America; the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; student council; Builders Club; and the Pleasant Outlaws 4-H club. She attends Switzerland Baptist Church.

Her career goal is to attend college and become a behavior analyst, with a goal of working with the FBI.

- McKENNA LEIGH EDWARDS is being sponsored in the pageant by RS Home Sales, and is the daughter of Michael and Marla Edwards. She is a sophomore this year at Switzerland County High School.

She was in the Top 10 of the freshman class; earned inclusion on the honor roll; and was a freshman class officer. She is a cheerleader; and is a member of the swimming and softball teams.

Her career plan is to attend college and pursue a degree in business with a minor in fashion merchandising, and hopes to open a bridal shop and coordinate weddings.

- EVELYN LOUISA GALBREATH is a junior at Switzerland County High School, and is the daughter of Abby and Ralph Galbreath. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Pam's Scissor Talk.

She is a member of varsity soccer, volleyball, basketball, and track teams; has been a member of the Switzerland County 4-H program for eight years; and is active in the FFA. She enjoys playing the saxophone and riding horses.

She plans on attending Purdue University and pursuing a career in veterinary science.

- JACQUELINE DETRAZ HENSLEY is being sponsored in this year's pageant by Detraz Services, and is a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is the daughter of Bobby and Monica Hensley.

She is a member of the Spanish Club; Pep Club; Business Professionals of America; and the National Honor Society; and she also participates on the varsity volleyball and swimming teams and is in the Top 10 in her class.

Her career ambition is to pursue a career in the criminal justice field.

- PAIGE ELIZABETH LIME is the daughter of Jennifer Lime and Joseph Morrow, and is a sophomore this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Vevay American Legion Post #185.

She earned a basketball award last year; and enjoys photography, sports, and architectural design.

She career ambition is to complete college and then attend the Indiana University School of Law and become an attorney.

- CAMERON LEA RAY is a freshman this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored in this year's pageant by Wagging Tails Dog Grooming. She is the daughter of Eric and Katina Ray.

She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society; participates in cross country and track; and is a member of the FFA chapter. She enjoys horseback riding, fishing, hunting, and riding four-wheelers.

Her career goal is to attend college and pursue a career as a veterinarian.

- KELBY DANIELLE ROGERS is the daughter of Laura Wentworth and Charles Rogers, and is a freshman this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Larry's Auto.

She was voted the "Most Musical" in the eighth grade; and is a member of the band and the cheerleading squad. She is a student manager for the football team; and is a member of the Vevay Assembly Youth Group.

Her career goal is to attend Indiana University to student nursing, and then work as an RN at Children's Hospital.

- McKAYLI ALAINE SCUDDER is a freshman at Switzerland County High School this fall, and is being sponsored in the pageant by Danner's Hardware. She is the daughter of Devin and Chastity Scudder.

She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society; the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and cheerleading; and is a member of the cross country, track, and basketball teams. She is active in the Switzerland Baptist Church Youth Group.

She would like to obtain a degree and license in business and insurance.

- PAIGE ELIZABETH WORKS is the daughter of Danna Adams and Robbie Works, and is being sponsored in this year's pageant by the Schenck Mansion Bed and Breakfast. She is a freshman this fall at Switzerland County High School.

She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society; is active in the Switzerland County 4-H program; is a member of American Christian Athletes; and plays volleyball. She enjoys cooking, cake decorating, shopping, camping, and boating.

Her career ambition is to become a medical examiner or a cosmetologist.
