The Switzerland County Lady Pacers varsity basketball team used big second and third quarters on Saturday afternoon to pull away and claim a 54-33 victory over the Hauser Lady Jets.
Both teams played to a 13-13 draw in the opening quarter, as the Lady Pacers got eight points from Jessie Duvall on a pair of three-pointers and a field goal. Keirstan Oeffinger also had a three-pointer in the opening quarter; while Nora Hankins added a bucket.
Hauser got two three-pointers from Hannah Taylor to pace the Lady Jets, and Aunaka Wasil added a three-pointer for Hauser.
The second quarter was a much different story, as Switzerland County outscored their guests by a 15-4 count to take a 28-17 lead into the break.
Maddie Duvall got her outside shot zeroed in during the second, hitting two three-pointers for six points; while Jessie Duvall had a couple of field goals for four points. Hankins added another bucket; and Oeffinger had three points on a field goal and a freethrow.
Up by 11 heading into the second half, the Switzerland County offensive firepower was again on full display in the third quarter, as the Lady Pacers posted 18 more points while holding their opponent to just five.
Maddie Duvall was again dialed in from long distance, connecting on three more treys in the stanza; while Gracie White also found the range from three-point territory.
Hannah Hayes had two baskets for four points; while Jessie Duvall also had a field goal.
The strong third quarter gave Switzerland County a 46-22 lead heading into the final eight minutes of play, but the outcome was not in doubt.
In that final period, Hauser outscored Switzerland County by an 11-8 margin, but it clearly wasn’t enough, and the Lady Pacers earned their seventh win overall and sixth in a row against a single loss, 54-33.
The fourth period saw Oeffinger, Allena Weaver, Hankins, and Hayes each had baskets to account for the eight points.
Maddie Duvall rode her five three-pointers to a team leading 15 points overall; while Jessie Duvall was right behind, finishing with 14 points on four field goals and a pair of three-pointers.
Maddie also finished with seven steals, four rebounds, and two assists; while Jessie had five steals, four assists, and three rebounds.
Oeffinger had eight points in the victory to go along with eight assists, three steals, and three rebounds; Hankins had six points, six rebounds, and an assist; and Hayes finished with six points, six rebounds, and a steal. White had three points, a pair of rebounds, and a blocked shot, and Weaver finished with two points.
Kyliegh Parrott led Hauser with 15 points; and Taylor finished with nine.
Switzerland County now preps for two home games in the coming days, as the Lady Pacers will host an opponent still to be determined this Saturday, December 12th for an afternoon affair. The Lady Pacers were scheduled to play Shawe Memorial, but that game has been canceled due to COVID. Switzerland will then host rival South Ripley on Tuesday, December 15th.
A game against Trimble County, Kentucky, that was set to be played on Thursday, December 17th, has also been postponed.
