On Sunday, March 3rd, the Lynx Wrestling Club got back in action by traveling north to participate in the East Central Folkstyle and Womens Open.
This tournament had kids from Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio. It also gave the Lynx female wrestlers a chance to wrestle other females, since most of the year they had to wrestle boys.
The club started off very sluggish in the first round of competition with only Tylor Thomas, Kassie Woodward and Casper Stow picking up victories. This was the first time the high school wrestlers had been on a mat in nearly a month and it showed.
Coach Mark Jackson gave the middle school wrestlers a week off from practice – and that showed up as well.
“Once we got our first round out of the way, things started to look up for us,” Coach Jackson said. “The kids started wrestling a lot better, and at the end of the day 7 of 10 wrestlers managed to place in the top three.”
Results from East Central included: Gabe Jackson third at Bantam 60-pounds; Keegan Ray second at schoolboy 84-pounds; Casper Stow second at 110-pounds; Kassie Woodward second at 125-pounds junior womens division; Alex Powers third at 160-pounds schoolboy; Tylor Thomas second at junior 220-pounds; and Luke Headen third at 220-pounds.
Others making the trip were Austin Dennis, Brad Rickett and Shelby Romans.
The club will be returning to action this weekend as it travels to Warren Central High School to participate in the Folkstyle State Finals.

Club Switzerland County/ Lynx wrestling has pushed back the deadline for sign ups until tomorrow (Friday, March 15th). The club has had an excellent number of local children sign up already, and club practices will be held at the middle school from 5-7 p.m. throughout the week.
Membership fees are $40 this includes your ISWA wrestling card that will be needed to participate in the tournaments the club travels to on the weekends. Most tourneys are held on a Saturday but their are a few exceptions. The club is open to 5-12 graders. Whether you have wrestled for eight years or none, the club is open to all.
