The Lynx Wrestling Club had a busy holiday weekend.
On Saturday, three members traveled to Whiteland Indiana to participate in the Whiteland folkstyle open. Peyton Richards led the team with a hard-earned first place victory at Intermediate 55-pounds. He managed to a perfect 4-0 on the day, competing against some of Indiana’s best wrestlers.
Lucas Richards managed to come home third and Mason Dawson managed to come home fourth at bantam 50-pounds. “These two had to wrestle each other for the third place match and that’s always tough on teammates and coaches,” Coach Mark Jackson said. “Lucas finished the day 2-1 and Mason 1-2.”
On Sunday the squad traveled to Madison to compete in its last elementary duals meet.
Coach Jackson said that the team drew a very tough Whitewater wrestling club and struggled to get going with our offense.
“We fell to Whitewater 76-14, with 48 of those points coming from forfeits on our behalf not able to fill weight classes,” the coach said.
Ethan Rose and Wylden Washnock each pulled out big victories for the Lynx club.
The next round was much like the first as the team faced Seymour. The Lynx fell to Seymour 34-9. Ethan Rose and Gabe Rose managed to pull out victories.
“The third round was more of what I’m used to seeing, as we defeated Jeffersonville 48-18,” Coach Jackson said. “Ethan Rose, Calib Riley, Gabe Rose, Wylden Washnock, and Gabe Jackson all picked up victories against the Red Devils.”
In the fourth round the Lynx club took on eventual tournament champion Franklin Central. The team would fall to Franklin 74-13, again with 48 of those points coming from forfeits.
Ethan Rose, Weston Bolton, Gabe Rose and Wylden Washnock all earned victories for the club.
The final round featured Team Lynx and the Madison Roughnecks; and the team would fall to Madison 39-12. Winners for the club were Ethan Rose, Calib Riley, and Gabe Rose.
Ethan Rose managed to go 5-0; Gabe Rose 4-1; Calib Riley 2-2; Gabe Jackson 2-2; Wylden Washnock 3-2; and Weston Bolton 2-3. Conner Frock, Easton Jesop, Luke James, Mason Dawson and Luke Penhall all went 1-3.
