Little League football picks up first win

The Switzerland County third and fourth grade little league football team has been having an outstanding season.

Head Coach Todd Reese said that when the season began the team had players who had never played a down of football. “As the season has gone on I have noticed the kids growing as football players and growing as young people as well,” Coach Reese said. “I teach my players that they don’t need talent or speed to play football, they have to have, heart.”

Coach Reese said that all of that work resulted in a victory over Jennings County.

In that game, Coach Reese said that Aleah Hensley opened the game by running the opening kickoff back for a touchdown. After that it was back and forth. In the fourth quarter, Jennings County started to drive the ball down the field and ended up with a first and goal on Switzerland County’s one-yard line.

From there the defense came up with a big play, as Switzerland County defenders Dylan Land, Gavin Reese, and Carl Abplanalp hit the ball carrier, knocking the ball loose. Switzerland County recovered the fumble, and secured the win.

Coach Reese wanted to thank assistant coach Jeff Current; commissioners Rick and Connie Wallace; Bonnie Baur, and the parents and others who have supported the squad.
