Spring cleanup

To the Editor:

Based on the success of the past three years, the Vevay Town Council will again be sponsoring a Spring Cleanup for the residents of Vevay. The purpose of the Spring Cleanup is to encourage all residents to clean up their property and take pride in their neighborhood. Dumpsters will be provided free of charge as a way to dispose of unwanted items and junk.

The hours will be Friday, April 15th from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 16th, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, April 17th, from 12 noon to 6 p.m.

The dumpsters will be located on the east end of town (just east of the old 7-Up Building) and will only be open during the designated times. These dumpsters are for Town of Vevay residents only. Residents are asked to bring a Town of Vevay utility bill stub to show proof of residency.

Items that will not be accepted include tires, trash, fuel tanks, paint cans, propane cylinders, barrels and fence.

Please do your part to help clean up our town.

For questions please call Town Hall at 427-3131.

Who’s the boss?

Dear Editor:

How can the powers that be in Washington, D.C., shut down the government? What about all the military personnel who are serving in war torn lands? They are asking our military personnel to lay down their loves over there each day and they are not going to get paid? What about their families back here, what do they do? What about all the civil service personnel? I don’t understand how supposedly smart people could show such disregard for the people they are supposed to be serving? The American people. Did they forget who is their boss? When the Democrats walked off the jobs and were gone a whole month, did they get paid? You bet they did. When you and I have a job, we don’t get paid if we miss days. What is wrong with everyone. Can no one get along with each other anymore?

There has to be a compromise worked out and get on with the business at hand. We have enough strife in this world without our leaders acting like they are above the law. They do need to cut spending. America is the greatest country on earth and yet people have forgotten how we became a great nation. It is because God has blessed America so much. God will surely judge America. Perhaps He already has. Think about it, people.

God have mercy on us all.
