To the Editor:
I am writing to thank the residents of Switzerland County for donating 167 shoebox gifts to ‘Operation Christmas Child’ for needy children around the world. Many of these children live in wretched living conditions, affected by war, disease, disaster, poverty, and famine. These gifts not only impact the child, but also their families and local churches.
The shoeboxes are filled with school supplies, hygiene items, and fun small toys. These children are also offered the opportunity to join a program, called The Greatest Journey, to learn about Jesus and His gifts of unconditional love and eternal life. Every 20 seconds, a child becomes a follower of Jesus during this program.
I would also like to thank the pastor and team of volunteers at Concord Community Church in Patriot for their commitment each year to be a drop off for shoeboxes in the area. They go through extensive training to maintain this role. During November 12th-19th, they will again open their doors to accept shoebox gifts. If you prefer not to wait until then, you can donate a box now by going online and packing a shoebox gift at samaritanspurse.org/buildonline.
Thank you again to everyone who participated in this project and for those who do so year after year. These simple shoebox gifts send a message of hope and love to children worldwide.
