Letters to the Editor 12-4-14

To the Editor:

On behalf of the Pacer Varsity Club, we’d like to say “Thank you”.

When it comes to supporting our children and our school system, there is no better community than Switzerland County – and, on November 6th, the Ballroom at Belterra Casino and Resort was proof of this fact.

Over 200 paid guests, including business leaders, sports fans and members of our community, attended the First Annual Pacer Varsity Club Dinner. We were fortunate to have Landon Turner and Ray Tolbert, members of the 1981 Indiana University National Championship Basketball team, as our featured speakers.

In addition to delicious food and the anecdotes about Hoosier practices from the former players; guests were entertained by both a silent auction and a live auction. We had a variety of auction items available, including signed sports memorabilia, gift certificates to local venues, and tickets to professional sporting events. And, to keep it interesting, we auctioned off some more unique items – like annual naming rights to the road between the high school and the administration office; or lunch with your favorite Pacer varsity coach.

All this was done in an effort to raise funds for the Pacer Varsity Club. The Pacer Varsity Club, established in 2014, was organized to support and enhance Switzerland County High School Athletic Department. And, thanks to everyone who donated their time and money to the dinner, we were able to raise more than $5,000 to support all high school sports.

Again, on behalf of the Pacers Varsity Club, we would like to say “Thank You” to our corporate sponsors, to those who donated auction items, to our guests who attended, to the bidders of the auction items, to our volunteers who worked at the event and to anyone else who assisted us in making this event a huge success!

This would not have been possible without the support of everyone involved.

And for those of you who weren’t able to attend this year’s dinner, we’ve already started our plans for the 2015 Pacer Varsity Club Dinner! We hope to add some new, exciting features to make it even better.

Thank you for your continued support for Switzerland County Athletics. Go Pacers!
