Gun control

To the Editor:

Gun control is not about guns, it’s about control. What was one of the first things Hitler, Stalin and Mao did as soon as they could – surrounded by children? They banned guns “for the safety of the children.” How many of these deaths might have been prevented had the people been able to defend themselves?

Gun regulation as proposed by Washington will not remove guns from the hands of criminals, that’s why they are called criminals. It will only leave law-abiding citizens defenseless.

Our Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting or sport as some gun control advocates would have you believe. It has to do with our being able to protect ourselves from an individual or a government that has become tyrannical. That was the original intent of our Founding Fathers. Look it up if you have any questions. They were already dealing with such a government.

And like it or not, we are going down that road. The current administration ignores the division of powers as stated in our Constitution and is now relying on Executive Orders, totally bypassing the other branches of government even when the Constitution clearly states what branch should do what.

We need to get back to the idea of individual worth (abortion?), responsibility for one’s actions and, more importantly, we must get back to God. Controlling ourselves, not controlling guns, is what we need today.

Here’s an interesting quote: “The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people happily will endure almost any curtailment of liberty.” Adolph Hitler.

By the way, about 65 million gun owners did not kill anyone today.
