Switzerland County Lady Pacer Leah Anders has been a dominant force in cross country this season, and that dominance continued on Saturday, as the junior earned the individual championship of the ORVC conference race.
Anders ran a time of 20:12 to easily outdistance her second place competitor, and in doing so earned All Conference honors for herself. She now prepares for the upcoming Sectional meet this Saturday, October 7th. The sectional will be run at Hanover College.
Also earning All Conference honors was freshman Kiersten Oeffinger, who ran to a 12th place finish with a time of 23:59, despite battling injuries throughout the season.
Switzerland County’s Bri Vinup ran a time of 24:56 for 21st place; Allison Detmer finished 23rd in a time of 25:17; Zoe Cole ran 25:37 to finish 24th; Aleiah Thomas was 28th in a time of 27:49; and Mikailah Peterson finished 33rd in a time of 29:45.
As a team, the Lady Pacers placed third with 80 points; trailing conference champion Jac-Cen-Del, which had a total of 42 points; followed by second place Southwestern, which finished with 67 points. South Ripley was fourth with 94 points; Milan was fifth with 104; and Rising Sun was sixth with 131
In the boys conference race, Switzerland County was able to field a complete team, and finished seventh overall; but did run their fastest average of the season, according to head coach Kris Sandlin.
The Pacers were led by Garrett Demaree, who finished 17th overall in a time of 19:36.
Other Switzerland County runners included: Coby Manbeck, 29th overall in a time of 20:48; Kayman McElheny was 43rd in a time of 22:17; Patrick Stow ran a time of 22:36 for 44th place; Nathan Scudder ran 22:38 to place 45th; and Bailey Bennett finished 46th in a time of 23:15.
Southwestern was the boys team champion with 35 points; followed by Rising Sun with 69; South Ripley with 92; Milan with 99; Jac-Cen-Del with 104; Shawe Memorial with 117; and Switzerland County with 178.
Trevor Levi of Rising Sun was the individual boys winner in a time of 16:45.4.
The focus for both teams now moves to this Saturday for the Sectional.
Also running on the Hanover College course are: Austin, Charlestown, Henryville, Jennings County, Madison, New Washington, Scottsburg, Shawe Memorial, Silver Creek, and Southwestern.
The boys race will start at 10:30 a.m.; followed by the girls race at 11:15 a.m.
