Leah Anders, Aleiah Thomas earn first places at SD Invitational

  The Switzerland County boys and girls varsity track teams participated in the South Dearborn Invitational last Thursday night.


  The Switzerland County boys and girls varsity track teams participated in the South Dearborn Invitational last Thursday night.

  In the girls meet, the Lady Pacers finished fourth overall in the field of eight teams, recording 67 points. Batesville won the invitational with 125 1/2 points; followed by Franklin County with 116 points; South Dearborn was third with 98 points. South Ripley was fifth with 55 points; Southwestern was sixth with 52 1/2; Lawrenceburg had 43 points; Oldenburg Academy had 33 points; and Rising Sun finished with 27 points.

  Scoring for the Lady Pacers was:

  — Leah Anders earned the blue ribbon in the 800-meter run, racing away to a first place finish in a time of 2:30.14. Matty Anderson finished sixth overall in the 800-meters.

  — The other first place points for the Lady Pacers was earned by Aleiah Thomas, whose height of 4’10” was good enough to win the high jump.

  — In the 100-meter hurdles, Ally Furnish was second overall; while Allison Detmer ran to a seventh overall finish.

  — Jody Breeck was second in the shot put, Madesyn Byrd finishing in 12th place.

  — Ally Furnish finished third in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; with Detmer coming home in ninth place.

  — In the 3,200-meter relay, the team of Abby Niswander, Anders, Anderson, and Keirstan Oeffinger finished third overall.

  — Breeck finished fourth in the discus; while Madesyn Byrd was 11th.

  — The 1,600-meter relay team of Anders, Oeffinger, Furnish, and Niswander placed fifth overall.

  — Aleiah Thomas finished sixth in the 200-meter dash; and Lieland came home with a 12th place finish.

  — The 400-meter relay team of Jayden Thomas, Sydney Thomas, Aleiah Thomas, and Willow Lieland finished seventh.

  — Lieland was ninth in the long jump, with Jayden Thomas finishing in 14th place.

  — Brianna Vinup was 11th in the 3,200-meter run.

  — Oeffinger was 11th overall in the 1,600-meter run, and Destine Peelman ran to a 16th place finish.

  — Lieland finished 13th in the 100-meter dash.


  In the boys side of the invitational, the Pacers were seventh with 28 points. Batesville was the winning team with 145 points; with Franklin County second with 142. Lawrenceburg was third with 93 1/2; Southwestern had 69; South Dearborn had 61; and Oldenburg Academy had 33. Rising Sun was eighth with 24 1/2; and South Ripley finished with 23 points.

  Earning points for the Pacers was:

  — Zach Howlett led the way for Switzerland County with a pair of second place finishes, earning second in the discus and the shot put. Isaac Slover was 11th in both the discus and shot put.

  — In the 400-meter relay, the team of Cameron Niswander, Scott Blair, JW Goldsberry, and Keegan Morris raced to a fourth place finish.

  — The 100-meter dash saw Morris finish eighth in the final, with Goldsberry finishing in 14th.

  — In the 3,200-meter relay, the team of Garrett Demaree, Logan Freeman, Coby Manbeck, and Jacob Wolf finished seventh.

  — The 300-meter intermediate hurdles saw Niswander finish eighth; while Cory Taulbee raced to a 10th place finish.

  — In the 110-meter hurdles, Slover was eighth overall and Bailey Bennett finished ninth overall.

  — In the 1,600-meter relay, the squad of Bennett, Niswander, Goldsberry, and Tre Batchelor ran to a seventh place finish.

  — Goldsberry was ninth in the 200-meter dash.

  — Bennett was ninth in the 400-meter dash.

  — In the 3,200-meter run, Demaree finished 12th overall; while Manbeck finished in 16th place.

  — Blair was 12th in the long jump; with Dez Lange jumping to a 14th place finish.

  — Freeman finished 16th in the 800-meter run.

  — Manbeck was 17th overall in the 1,600-meter run.
