The Switzerland County Lady Pacers scored two goals in the final 12 minutes to defeat South Ripley 2-0 in opening round Class A Sectional 45 girls soccer action on Tuesday, October 4th in Rising Sun.
The two Ohio River Valley Conference foes were locked up i a 0-0 tie at the half. Sophomore Calleigh Powell just missed a score on a header, but the game remained scoreless through most of the second 40 minutes.
Finally sophomore Kinsley Griffith got open in front of the goal and put in a rebounded shot with 11:34 left in the game.
South Ripley pulled up its defense with Taylor Benning going on the attack – which Pacer senior Taylar Jordan took advantage of for a breakaway goal with two minutes left to insure the win. The Lady Pacers had worked the ball through Jordan’s right side most of night.
Freshman keeper Allie Bruce recorded the shutout for the Lady Pacers. Raider keeper Danny Baugh had six saves.
Switzerland County now advances to the semifinals to play defending Sectional champ Lawrenceburg tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m. Rising Sun will play Milan at 5 p.m. in the first semifinal.
Lawrenceburg, ranked 10th in Class A, was an 8-0 winner over Southwestern Tuesday evening. Tonight’s winners advance to the finals at 2 p.m. Saturday.
