Rising Sun defeated South Ripley 3-1 on Monday to clinch the Ohio River Valley Conference girls soccer title.
The Lady Shiners improved to 8-0-1 in ORVC play with one game remaining at home tonight against Milan.
Keira Oser put Rising Sun up 1-0 in the first half then made it 2-0 with a goal at the 31:59 mark. South Ripley (winners of the first ORVC title a year ago) got on the board with a goal by Brooke Elston with 24:04 left. Kinsey Price put in a crossing pass from Kasey Baker with 17:30 left for the final score.
It was parent appreciation night which honored seniors Claire Blackwell, Macy Elliott and Ashley Yauch, along with exchange student Pang Pornthanawat.
Rising Sun closed out its non-conference season last week with an 11-0 loss to Oldenburg Academy and a 3-3 tie with Madison.
The Lady Shiners took a 3-0 lead in over the winless Madison Lady Cubs before the Cubs scored fro a 3-1 halftime score.
The Lady Shiners got off to a quick start. Keira Oser scored the first goal at the 35 minute mark. The Lady Shiners scored quickly again with a roller shot by Sydney Pitts from the left side. Madison changed their goalie. Around the 20 minute mark, Keira Oser drove down the middle, and sent a shot to the corner for her second goal of the night. Madison was able to finally score late in the first half.
The second half saw the Lady Shiners get some good shot opportunities, but couldn’t get one passed the Madison goalie, according to assistant coach Jason Barth. Madison on the other hand began to keep the ball down on their offensive end more and put pressure on the RS defense. Coach Christina Rumsey made a defensive change. Kasey Baker, Morgan Bush, and Miranda Hall each took turns marking Madison’s best scorer.
Madison scored two second half goals including the final goal with 21:31 remaining.
Rising Sun’s regular season finale was set for Wednesday against Milan. They face Trinity Lutheran on Monday in sectional play. Milan will play the winner of that game next Thursday.
