Lady Shiners win headed into tourney


The Rising Sun Lady Shiners broke a five game losing streak with a convincing 61 to 27 win over Medora on Thursday, Dec. 21st at Rising Sun.

Senior Lucy Carrigan scored 15 of her game high 27 points in the opening quarter. The school’s third all-time leading 12 two pointers and a 3-poointer and did not play in the second and fourth quarters.

Junior Danyka Groover had a size advantage over the Medora front line and used her height to score 13 points and seven rebounds while also sitting down two quarters.

Rising Sun jumped out to an 11-2 lead and led 34 =-6 after one quarter. It was 38-15 at the half then 54-21 after three quarter.

Coach Abby Friend was able to get plenty of playing time for all nine players.

Freshman Maddi Wilson added nine points including a 3-pointer on 4-for-10 from the field. Sydney Pitts added six points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Kinsey Price added four points and Sydney Bostic added a pair of free throws.

The Shiners were 26-for-57 from the field while Medora was 12-for-45 uncluding 1-for-10 from 3-point range. Rising Sun was 7-for-10 at the line and Medora made 2-for-6. The Shiners had a 34 to 24 rebound advantage. Rising Sun had 14 turnover to 25 for Medora.

Rising Sun (4-8) heads to Speedway (3-8) where they will play the Indiana Deaf School at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) following the opening contest between North Putnam (4-9) and Speedway (6-7). The consolation game is at 2:30 with the finals at 4 p.m.
