Sophomore Lindsay Montgomery posted another double double to lead Rising Sun to a 42-37 win over Crothersville on Tuesday, Dec. 11th in Rising Sun.
The two teams were in a see saw battle throughout the first half but Rising Sun led 11-9 after one quarter and took the lead for good 22-12 at the half. The Shiners led 34-22 with eight minutes remaining. Crothersville went on a 7-2 run but the Shiners held on.
Montgomery led the Shiners with 20 points and 12 rebounds while Danyka Groover added 12 points and a team high 14 rebounds. Maddi Wilson added nine points and eight rebounds. Sydney Pitts had three points.
The Shiners shot 35 percent from the field with 17-for-48 from inside the arc but just 7-for-17 at the line.
Crothersville was led by Piper Hensley with 11 and Maddie Riley with 10.
They were just 8-for-32 from two point range and 6-for-19 from 3-point range.
Rising Sun had a 37-29 rebounding edge but had 18 turnovers.
Crothersville won the reserve contest 34-15. Allison Bailey scored six for the Shiners.
On Thursday, the Shiners hosted Milan in a non-conference contest and saw the Indians control the boards to down the Shiners 41-38.
Milan dominated the game early but Rising Sun rallied to head into intermission tied at 17.
The game see-sawed throughout the third quarter with Milan holding a 28-27 lead headed into the final quarter.
The Shiners led by five after baskets by freshman Maddy Bovard and Montgomery.
Milan’s Courtney Bruns buried a 3-pointer to give Milan a 39-38 advantage then Cionna Bailey’s blocked snot led to a face break basket and a three point Indian lead.
Rising Sun had a 3-point try by Maddi Wilson blocked and Milan headed home with the slimmest of victories.
Bailey keyed the Milan offense with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Makayla O’Brien added 10 points.
Milan had a 36-24 rebounding advantage including 21 offensive board to just three by the Shiners.
Rising Sun continued to be led by the 1-2 punch of Montgomery and Groover.
Montgomery had 14 points and eight rebounds with Danyka Groover adding 11 points and eight boards. Sydney Bostic had a season best five points and five assists. Bovard added four points with Pitts and Wilson adding two each. Pitts had three steals and Groover had six deflections.
The two will meet again on January 8 as Rising Sun opens its Ohio River Valley Conference play at Milan.
Rising Sun returns to action against Speedway on Thursday, Dec. 27 at 9:30 a.m. to open the Speedway Tournament.
