Rising Sun returned home after a three game road trip to post a 6-2 win over Southwestern on Monday to open Ohio River Valley Conference play.
The Lady Shiners found them in a first half battle against their conference rivals as the two teams were tied at the half.
Sydney Pitts had both of Rising Sun’s first half goals but Southwestern answered each time.
The halftime break proved to be the key as Southwestern’s starting keeper spent the entire time on the ground and obviously not feeling well.
Rising Sun took advantage of that as Pitts recorded her third goal of the night by curling in a long 25 yard kick that nobody could get to with 26:24 remaining.
Hannah Warr made it 4-2 with 34:25 left before Kinsey Price made it 5-2 with 8:30 remaining.
Pitts scored the final goal on a rebounded shot with 26:08 left.
Rising Sun had 25 shots including 10 by Pitts with four finding the back of the net.
The win improved Rising Sun to 2-3 on the season and snapped a three game losing streak.
Rising Sun bounced back from a tough 8-0 loss to Lawrenceburg.
The Lady Shiners’ defense packed it in against the 14th ranked Lady Tigers were held scoreless until the 24:10 mark Jenna Farmer from Makenna White. Hannah Brayton made it 2-0 before Farmer made it 3-0 with 8:08 left in the half.
Farmer added her third goal of the night with 25:23 left in the second half.
It was 5-0 with 11:08 remaining and then the rain came. The home team added a trio of goals in the final 10 minutes to close out the game on Lawrenceburg’s artificial turf field.
Shiner keeper Helene Taylor had 14 saves.
Rising Sun was scheduled to play at Milan Wednesday and host Switzerland County tonight (Thursday). They open a four game road trip starting at South Ripley next Wednesday.
