Lady Shiners nipped by SD; fall to fourth ranked Raiders

Rising Sun and South Dearborn battled down to the wire before the Lady Knights went home with a 37 to 34 win over the Lady Shiners on Tuesday, Nov. 28th at Rising Sun.

The game was tied three times in the opening quarter including 10 to 10 after eight minutes.

Rising Sun led 19 to 13 at the half, holding SD to an Alyssa McClanahan 3-poointer.

The Shiners led by as many as nine in the third quarter before the Knights pulled to within three ( 28 to 25) with eight minutes remaining.

Fourth quarter turnovers proved costly as South Dearborn rallied to take the lead.

Rising Sun had to call time out at the 2:14 mark as leading scorer Lucy Carrigan had to have a bloodied nose after picking up a charge.

The Knights outscored the Shiners 12 to 6 to gain the three point win.

Carrigan led all scorers with a season low 16 points including 9-for-10 at the free throw line. She had seven steals and five rebounds.

Danyka Groover dominated the boards added 14 rebounds to her nine points. Kinsey Price added four points with Sydney Pitts scoring three and grabbing four boards. Sydney Bostic added a basket , three rebounds and two assists. Saige Groover had a trio of rebounds and Emma Levi two.

McClanahan led SD with 15 followed by Kyrsten Bond and Brooke Huddleston with nine each. Kate Townsend and Bry LaGreca had two each.

Both teams were evenly matched as Rising Sun was 12-for-55 from the field for 22 percent including 1-for-13 from 3-point range. SD was 13-for-44 with 5-for 19 from behind the arc.

The Shiners grabbed a 31 to 25 rebounding advantage and had 15 turnovers to 16 for the Knights.

Rising Sun battled South Ripley shot for shot in the opening quarter of a non-conference battle on Friday.

However, the Class 2A fifth ranked Lady Raiders created 18 of Rising Sun’s 34 turnovers in the first half to pull ahead 35 to 21 at the half. They went on to a 67 to 36 win.

Lucy Carrigan picked up a double double with a game high 24 points including three 3-pointers and 9-for-10 at the line along with 10 rebounds.

Danyka Groover added nine points, nine rebounds three steals and a block. Sydney Bostic had four rebounds and three steals.

Sydney Pitts added a pair of free throws and,Kinsey Price one for the other Shiner points.

Elexah Roepke led the Raiders with 16. Morgan Peetz added 11, Julia Rea 10, Mariah Gentile seven, Cameo Hamm six, Toria Tucker six, Cierra Copeland five, Kiley Sparks four, and Haley Bishop two.

The Shiners shot 22 percent 9-for-41 from the field and 15-for-19 from the line.

Rising Sun (3-5) was to host Oldenburg Academy on Tuesday before traveling to Trinity Lutheran tonight (Thursday). They will visit Milan next Thursday in a non-conference battle.
