Lady Shiners improve to 15-3 with power and pitching

    The Rising Sun Lady Shiners improved to 15-3 and 10-1 in Ohio River Valley Conference play with wins over Shawe and South Ripley.

    The wins put them in position for a share of the conference title with a win in its final regular season contest on Wednesday at Jac-Cen-Del (no result at press time).

    The Shiners used their power in winning their final regular season home game 24-4 over Shawe on Friday.

    Rising Sun scored two in the first then belted  in 17 runs in the second. Lindsay Montgomery’s smacked a 2-run shot, her 11th home run of the season. Sydney Pitts hit her first home run of the season, also a 2-run shot. Lucy Phelps added her fourth homer of the season in the inning.

   The Shiners had 22 hits while Pitts allowed just one hit while striking out eight.

   Phelps and Pitts had three hits and three RBI each Montgomery added a double and three RBI. Sydney Bostic had a double and triple along with a team high five RBI. Abby Wallace had two hits with a double. Isabelle Weaver had her first varsity hits of the season and scored twice. Emma Levi had two hits and three runs scored.

   Caroline Stapleton. Lura Little, Grace Bujack, Vada Walston, and Kassidy Romans had a hit each.

   Rising Sun scored a 15-1 win Monday at South Ripley.

   Tyrrah Miller had four hits including two doubles to lead the Shiners. Levi had a double and triple among her four hits  while Romans had a pair of doubles, along with a double and triple by Pitts (4-for-4).

Romans, Levi, and Pitts drove in three runs each.

   Levi’s single started an eight run first inning with all runs scoring after two outs. Miller had the first of her four hits and Levi singled for the second time in the inning to close the scoring.

   Rising Sun added four in the third with Miller getting things started followed by doubles by Romans and Levi. Bostic singled and Pitts tripled.

  Three more runs scored in the fourth. Stapleton reached on an error with Miller adding her fourth hit. Levi tripled and scored the final run on a sac fly by Bostic.

    Pitts allowed a pair of first inning hits then retired the next 13 batters (not allowing a ball out of the infield).

    Rising Sun opens sectional play Monday when they host North Decatur at 5 p.m.
