The Rising Sun Lady Shiners celebrated a 3-0 non-conference win over South Dearborn on Parent Appreciation Night on Tuesday, Sept. 19th.
They took the match 25-19, 25-21, and 25-22.
Danyka Groover led Rising Sun with 14 kills, three blocks, and 11-for-12 serving and a pair of aces.
Lucy Phelps added six kills in 19 attempts and was 3-for-3 serving. Emma Sullivan added 11-for-12 with one kill and a team high four blocks.
Emma Levi added four kills and a block with Tyrrah Miller delivering three kills and a block.
Caroline Stapleton (rising Sun’s lone senior) continued to be the Shiners top server with 7-for-7. She was 61-for-62 with 20 assists as the team’s setter.
Rising Sun served 84.4 percent for the match including 9-for-9 by Sydney Bostic, Abby Wallace 7-for-10- three aces. Grace Bujack 4-for-4, Kassidy Romans 6-for-10, Miller 7-for-10 and three aces, and Phelps 3-for-3.
Rising Sun returned to Ohio River Valley Conference action on Thursday with a 3-0 loss to Switzerland County in Vevay.
The Lady Pacers took a 25-20, 25-20 and 25-18 win to improve to 2-1 in ORVC play and Rising Sun dropped to 2-3 in conference play.
Switzerland County opened the third set with an 8-0 run behind the serve of Ariel Oeffinger.
Rising Sun came back to within one (8-7) behind Stapleton’s serve before Kalli Morton served the Pacers to a 13-7 advantage and the Shiners pulled to within three at 19-16 despite four errant serves.
The serve returned to Kalli Morton as the hosts went up 23-18 with Kinley Morton taking control of the net with a pair of kills and a block before serving match point.
Caroline Stapleton led Rising Sun serving with 18-for-19 and seven aces. Abby Wallace was 12-for-12 and four aces. Lucy Phelps and Lindsey Montgomery were both 7-for-7 while Tyrrah Miller and Kassidy Romans were 6-for-7 and three aces each. Sydney Bostic was 8-for-9.
Bostic led the team with 17-for-21 in digs and 15-for-17 in serve reception.
Rising Sun travels to South Decatur tonight (Thursday) and host a four team invitational on Saturday. They close out the regular season at LAwrenceburg on Tuesday.
