The Switzerland County Lady Pacers wrapped up their regular season last Thursday night with a 57-44 victory over Madison Shawe, and in the process squared the team’s record at 10-10 heading into sectional play.
The game featured a balanced attack offensively for Switzerland County, who saw three players – Ashley Bright, Morgan Ross, and April Thieman – finish with double figures in scoring.
April Thieman opened the scoring in the first period for Switzerland County; and Morgan Ross then got hot offensively, hitting three straight baskets and adding another at the freethrow line. The Lady Pacers also got a three-pointer from Ashley Bright; but Switzerland County couldn’t break away from the Lady Hilltoppers, and the opening stanza ended with the teams locked at 12-12.
The second quarter saw the Lady Pacers sneak out to a lead, outscoring their guests 12-10 in the second period to go up 24-22 at the half.
Switzerland County got scoring in the second period from Courtney Cole, Morgan Ross, Ashley Bright and April Thieman.
The number “12” seemed to be a good one for the Lady Pacers, having scored 12 points in each of the first two quarters of Thursday night’s game. That trend continued into the second half, as Switzerland County again added 12 points to their total while Shawe managed 10. That pushed the Lady Pacer lead to 36-32 with eight minutes left to play.
The Lady Pacer offense kicked into gear in the final quarter as Switzerland County connected on 21 points down the stretch to pull away from the Lady Hilltoppers. Shawe managed only 12 points over the final period, and the final margin of victory was 13-points.
Senior Ashley Bright scored first in the fourth quarter after she stole the ball. Brittany Hall then connected for the Lady Pacers, pushing Switzerland County out to a three-point lead.
Switzerland County finished off its scoring at the foul line hitting 9-out-of-10.
The top scorer for the Lady Pacers was senior Ashley Bright, who had 18 points, five steals and four assists. Morgan Ross had 13 points and finished with nine rebounds; and April Thieman had 10 points and five rebounds.
Courtney Cole scored eight points and had six rebounds; Amber Smith finished with three points; and Brittany Hall had two points and six rebounds.
Megan McCarty also finished with two points; and Tanya Sefton finished with a game-high seven assists.

The top scorer for the Lady Pacers was Christina Ahaus with nine points; while Carrie Truax had eight points and three rebounds. Jenna Daugherty had four points and finished with four assists and two steals; and Chelsea Peters and Maggie Armstrong each finished with two points. Maggie Armstrong had the most steals for the team with four; and Katie Rayls had the most rebounds, finishing with five.
