The Lady Pacer varsity track team won the championship of the Ohio River Valley Conference. The meet was held last Thursday at Jac-Cen-Del High School.
Switzerland County finished with 123 points to easily outdistance second place Jac-Cen-Del, which finished with 87 points. South Ripley finished third with 68 points; followed by Rising Sun with 66; Southwestern with 60; Milan with 39; and Madison Shawe with 15.
The Lady Pacers had championships in just two events, but used its depth to pull away in the scoring column.
Freshman McKayli Scudder earned the ORVC championship in the high jump with a height of 5’1″; and the 400-meter relay team of Eve Galbreath, Moriah Northcutt, Adeli Kinne, and McKayli Scudder won its event in a time of :53.24.
Second places were earned by Megan Dasis in the 200-meter dash and the long jump; Whitley Schirmer in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run; Eve Galbreath in the 100-meter hurdles; the 1,600-meter relay team of Megan Dasis, Bre Ricketts, Audrey Kinne, and Moriah Northcutt; and the 3,200-meter relay team of Audrey Kinne, Jade Mullins, Cameron Ray, and Whitley Schirmer.
Finishing third was Mackenzie Covington in the 400-meter dash; Jade Mullins in the 800-meter run; Bre Ricketts in the 100-meter hurdles; and Susie Reyes in the discus. Fourth place points were earned by Melissa Furnish in the 200-meter dash; Cameron Ray in the 3,200-meter run; Moriah Northcutt in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; and Eve Galbreath in the shot put.
Fifth place was earned by Susie Reyes in the shot put; sixth places were earned by Moriah Northcutt in the 100-meter dash; Audrey Kinne in the 400-meter dash; Anja Rotter in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; McKayli Scudder in the long jump; and Natalie Newman in the discus; and seventh place was earned by Cameron Ray in the 1,600-meter run.
The under-manned Pacer boys varsity team fought hard all season long, and continued that fight at the conference meet with a third place finish.
Rising Sun won the conference title with a total of 140 points; followed by South Ripley with 104; Switzerland County with 96; Jac-Cen-Del with 40; Milan with 30; Southwestern with 30; and Madison Shawe with 14.
Senior Braden Burk was a two-time individual champion, winning the 800-meter run in a time 2:04.03 and he won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:44.59.
Junior Ben Curran won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of :41.96; and Talen Taylor brought home the championship in the 3,200-meter run, turning in a time of 10:26.66.
Ben Curran was second in the 110-meter hurdles; as was the 3,200-meter relay team of Talen Taylor, Jordan Lay, Cameron Papucci, and Braden Burk. Third place points were earned by Brody Splain in the 100-meter dash; Talen Taylor in the 3,200-meter run; Ben Curran in the high jump; the 1,600-meter relay team of Dakota Taylor, Justus Powell, Cameron Papucci, and Braden Burk; and the 400-meter relay team of Cory Proffit, Justus Powell, Christian Stogsdill, and Brody Splain.
Finishing fourth was Brody Splain in the 200-meter dash and Ben Curran in the long jump; while fifth place was earned by Dakota Taylor in the 110-meter hurdles. Dakota Taylor was seventh in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; Jordan Lay was eighth in the 800-meter run; and Cory Proffit was ninth in the discus and 10th in the shot put.
