The Lady Pacers headed up the river Tuesday night to Rising Sun, and brought home a big 64-36 victory over the Lady Shiners.

Switzerland County got off to a quick start, getting baskets from April Thieman and Morgan Ross before April Thieman was sent to the line and was successful on both of her attempts.

Rising Sun got on the board with a freethrow, but that was matched by a charity from Morgan Ross. Switzerland County kept the defensive pressure on Rising Sun, resulting in some costly turnovers and easy buckets.

The first quarter ended with Switzerland County out in front. 10-3.

In the second quarter Switzerland County continued its offensive run, getting some scoring from an unexpected source.

Just seven weeks after undergoing ACL surgery on her knee, junior Courtney Cole was cleared by doctors and returned to the court. It didn’t take long for her to make her presence known, as she connected on a basket to help fuel the Lady Pacer run.

Switzerland County also got buckets from Ashley Bright, Brittany Hall and Morgan Ross; and Tanya Sefton also connected on a three-pointer.

Rising Sun stayed close, however, trailing in second quarter scoring only 15-12, but the first quarter hole was too much to dig out of, and the teams headed to halftime with the Lady Pacers out in front by a score of 25-15.

The offensive explosion by the Lady Pacers continued in the third period, as Switzerland County got baskets from Ashley Bright, Morgan Ross and Megan McCarty before Rising Sun managed to score.

The third period was a big one for Switzerland County, as the Lady Paces would outscore Rising Sun by a 29-13 count to grab firm control of the game.

As the third quarter came to a close, Switzerland County held a 54-28 advantage.

The final quarter was spent with the Shiners trying to get themselves back into the game, applying a pressure defense and taking quick shots on offense.

It wasn’t enough, however, as Lady Pacer coach Wayne Ellegood cleared his bench halfway through the final period, and Switzerland County again outscored their hosts by a 10-8 count.

The final margin was 28 points, as Switzerland County captured another ORVC win by a score of 64-36.

Three Lady Pacers finished in double figures for the game. Ashley Bright was the top scorer, finishing with 20 points, seven assists and five steals. Morgan Ross had 17 points, 11 rebounds and four steals; and Courtney Cole added 10 points in her first game back.
