The Switzerland County Lady Pacers won last Wednesday night in a close game with the Lawrenceburg Lady Tigers 46-41 in the opening round of the Rivertown Classic to advance them to the Championship game Saturday night.
Lady Pacer Kodi Driver started off the game scoring first for the Lady Pacers with a total of six points; a three-point shot and hitting three out of four at the foul line. Lawrenceburg was on the board with one foul shot and a basket trailing the Lady Pacers 6-3.
Lady Pacers April Thieman and Kodi Driver each hit another shot each and then Ashley Chase finished off the quarter at the foul line hitting two for two, ending the quarter 12-3.
The second quarter was started off with the Lady Tigers at the foul line adding one to their side. Natalie Daugherty then scored for the Pacers giving them a 14-4 lead.
Lady Tiger Ayrika Harvey hit a shot and Lawrenceburg’s Chelsie Mollaun scored two points at the foul line, closing the gap to 14-8.
Lady Pacer Ashley Chase then scored and Lady Tiger Sara Vorbroker returned that with a basket of her own. Kodi Driver would finish the half with a three-point shot ending the quarter 19-12.
The Lady Tigers had outscored the Lady Pacers 9-7 in the quarter.
Lawrenceburg came back from the break on a run, scoring three times in a row before the Lady Pacers got a shot in getting them within one point of the Lady Tigers 19-18.
Finally, with 5:26 left in the third quarter, Kodi Driver got the Lady Pacers started scoring a three-point shot. April Thieman then stole the ball and converted the drive into a nice layup.
Ashley Chase and Natalie Daugherty followed with shots of their own and Ashley Bright would add a point at the foul line taking back a lead now 29-18.
The Lady Tigers would score once more but Ashley Bright would end the quarter adding another point for the Lady Pacers at the foul line the third quarter ending 30-20. The Lady Pacers outscored the Lady Tigers 11-8.
Lady Pacer Ashley Chase started out the final quarter as the only Lady Pacer to score in the first five minutes with a three-point shot, a basket for two and hitting two shots at the foul line.
The Lady Tigers in that time span had added 13 points with two-three-points shots, two baskets and three at the line cutting the lead down to 37-33.
Natalie Daugherty then connected with two shots for the Lady Pacers; but Lawrenceburg had replied with their own shots. With less than a minute to go the score was 41-37.
Lady Pacers April Thieman then went to the foul line adding a point to the Pacer side. Ashley Chase also added two points from the foul line, expanding on the lead 44-37.
Ashley Bright would end the scoring for the Lady Pacers with a basket, while the Lady Tigers would add another basket and two more from the foul line, ending the game with Switzerland County winning by a score of 46-41.
Scoring for the Lady Pacers were Ashley Chase with 15 points, Kodi Driver with 14 and Natalie Daugherty had eight. April Thieman added five and Ashley Bright chipped in four.
