Lady Pacers go 3-2 for the week

The Switzerland County High School varsity softball team has had a busy week; and as the season rolls along, Coach Steven Konkle’s squad is gaining valuable experience and rounding into form.

Here’s a look at recent action:

– On Wednesday night, April 13th, the Lady Pacers fell to Milan by a score of 6-3.

Kelsi Konkle led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a sacrifice and a run batted in. Taylar Jordan was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored; Bre Braun was 1-for-3; and McKenna Edwards was also 1-for-3.

Mallory Phagan finished 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored; and Brooke Todd was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

– On Friday, April 15th, the Lady Pacers earned a big win with a 10-4 defeat of Shawe Memorial.

Konkle again did damage at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored, a stolen base, and an RBI. Kelby Rogers was 2-for-3 with a sacrifice and an RBI; and Todd was also 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored, a stolen base; a walk; and a run batted in.

Jordan was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base; Scudder was 2-for-5 with an RBI; Whitley Schirmer was 1-for-2 with a stolen base; Phagan was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored; and Parr was 1-for-3 with a walk, a run scored, and an RBI.

Kayla Jordan was 1-for-1 with a run scored and an RBI; and Kaylee Wetzel was also 1-for-1 with a run scored.

Murray did solid work in the circle to earn the win, going six innings and striking out seven while allowing just two earned runs.

– On Saturday, April 16th, Switzerland County played a doubleheader against Lawrenceburg.

The Lady Pacers fell in the first game by a score of 10-2. Konkle took the tough loss on the mound, going seven innings and striking out five, as only five of Lawrenceburg’s 10 runs were earned.

Offensively, Konkle was 2-for-3 with a stolen base; and Edwards was also 2-for-3. Phagan was 1-for-3 with two RBI; Baylie Scudder was 1-for-3 with a run scored and Braun was also 1-for-3 with a run scored.

In the second game, Switzerland County came back to post a 10-9 win.

Jordan was 3-for-4 at the plate with a triple, a stolen base; and three runs scored; and Konkle was also 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored, a stolen base, and three RBI.

Todd was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a stolen base, and an RBI; Kassedy Murray was a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI; and Braun was 2-for-3 with a run batted in. Rachel Ard was 1-for-3 with a run scored; and Scudder was 1-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

In the circle, Alysa Parr went four innings, striking out three and allowing three earned runs to pick up the victory; with Ariel Oeffinger also pitching three innings.

– On Tuesday night the Lady Pacers continued their busy schedule with a 9-6 victory at Jac-Cen-Del.

Taylar Jordan finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles, and she scored three runs and added a stolen base; while Todd was also 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Konkle was 1-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI; while Edwards was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI.

Konkle also returned to the mound, where she earned the win by going the distance, and striking out 10. She allowed just nine hits and three earned runs.
