Lady Pacers fall in two weekly matches

The Switzerland County varsity volleyball team continued to struggle through its season, falling in two more matches during the past week.

• On Tuesday, September 25th, the Lady Pacers fell to Shawe Memorial in conference play, losing in five close sets. Game scores included: 22-25, 25-16, 25-21, 17-25, 11-15.

Madesyn Byrd was the spiking leader, having 25 spike attempts and eight kills; while Maggie Henry had 23 spike attempts and nine kills. Sydney Powers had 10 spike attempts and one kill; Delanie Swanson had eight spike attempts and four kills; Jaden Harrell had five spike attempts and two kills; and Brooke Johnson had three spike attempts.

On the serve line, Byrd was a perfect19-for-19 with eight aces; Keirstan Oeffinger was 21-for-23 with seven aces; Powers was 10-for-14 with two aces; Swanson was 9-for-10 with four aces; and Johnson was 9-for-12 with an ace.

Johnson recorded 66 pass attempts and 12 digs; Keirstan Oeffinger had 40 pass attempts and 12 digs; Powers had 36 pass attempts and five digs; Swanson had 14 pass attempts and five digs; Henry had 14 pass attempts and five digs; while setting statistics showed Swanson with 72 sets and 19 kill assists; and Byrd had three sets.

The loss dropped the varsity overall record to 3-15, 1-3 in conference play.

• On Wednesday,  September 26th, the Lady Pacers hosted Owen County, Kentucky, and lost in three straight sets by scores of 13-25, 13-25, 14-25.

In spiking statistics, Ally Furnish had 22 spike attempts, seven kills, and two blocks to lead Switzerland County; while Swanson had 14 spike attempts and two kills.

Henry had 11 spike attempts and three kills; Johnson had eight spike attempts; Byrd had six spike attempts and a kill; Harrell had four spike attempts, a kill, and a block; and Ariel Oeffinger had a spike attempt.

Ariel Oeffinger led the way serving going 2-for-2 with two aces; Keirstan Oeffinger was 4-for-5 with an ace; Byrd was 3-for-3; Henry was 3-for-3; Johnson was 4-for-5; Furnish was 3-for-5; and Swanson was 3-for-6.

Keirstan Oeffinger has 58 pass attempts and 15 digs; Johnson had 17 pass attempts and four digs; Furnish had 14 pass attempts and two digs; Swanson had 10 pass attempts and two digs; Powers had eight pass attempts and two digs;  Ariel Oeffinger had five pass attempts and one dig; and Henry had three pass attempts.

Furnish had 31 sets and four kill assists; Swanson had 21 sets and eight kill assists; and Byrd had 12 sets and two kill assists.

The Lady Pacers now head to New Washington on Saturday to participate in the New Washington Invitational; and then open Sectional play on Thursday, October 11th, at Southwestern against South Ripley.
