Lady Pacers end season with sectional loss to Milan

Delayed a day by rain, the Lawrenceburg Class 2A softball sectional got underway on Tuesday, and in the opening game, the Switzerland County Lady Pacers saw their season come to an end with an 8-6 loss at the hands of Milan.

Courtney Cole continued her offensive tear, going 4-for-4 on the night, including a triple, and she also scored two runs and collected two RBI. Over the last four games, she is 13-for-16 at the plate.

Tanya Sefton was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI; Amber Smith was 1-for-3; Megan McCarty was 1-for-3 with a triple, one run scored, and one RBI; and Melisa Raisor was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Hailee Smith recorded the Lady Pacers only stolen base of the game.

Sophomore pitching sensation Becky Turner breezed through the first three innings, retiring all nine Milan players in order; but Coach Steven Konkle said that the strike zone disappeared after that, with four walks and a hit batsman in the fourth and fifth innings the undoing of the Switzerland County game.

Overall the team finished with a record of 14-11; earning the championships of the Rivertown Classic Tournament and the Charlestown Tournament.
