Lady Pacers earn championship of VMG Track Invitational

  The Switzerland County Lady Pacer varsity track team continued its outstanding season by earning the championship of the Vevay Media Group Invitational last Thursday night.

  The Switzerland County Lady Pacer varsity track team continued its outstanding season by earning the championship of the Vevay Media Group Invitational last Thursday night.

  The Lady Pacers won the meet with a team score of 114 to easily outdistance second place South Ripley, who tallied 87 points. Southwestern was third with 84 points; Jac-Cen-Del was fourth with 77; Rising Sun finished fifth with 70; Lawrenceburg was sixth with 67; Trimble County’s 38 points brought them seventh place; and Shawe Memorial was eighth with 36.

  Lady Pacer athletes earned three first place finishes in the meet, as Aleiah Thomas won the high jump with a height of 4’11”; Jody Breeck captured the shot put with a distance of 31’8”; and Leah Anders continued her dominance in the 800-meter run, finishing in a time of 2:28.21. Switzerland County’s 3,200-meter relay team won in a time of 11:28.18; and the 1,600-meter relay team won in a time of 4:26.06.

  Earning second place points for Switzerland County was Ally Furnish in the 100-meter hurdles and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; and Breeck was second in the discus.

  Third places were earned by Aleiah Thomas in the 100-meter dash and Abby Niswander in the 400-meter dash; Willow Lieland was fifth in the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash; Keirstan Oeffinger was fifth in the 1,600-meter run; Allison Detmer was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and seventh in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles; Aleiah Thomas was sixth in the 200-meter dash; and Josie Meyer was eighth in the high jump.

  In the boys Vevay Media Group Invitational, the Pacer squad finished fifth in the eight-team field.

  The Tigers of Lawrenceburg won with a team total of 157 points; with Southwestern in second with 121 points. Trimble County was third with 86; Jac-Cen-Del was fourth with 83; and the Pacers finished with 47 points. Rising Sun was sixth with 39; followed by South Ripley with 32 and Shawe Memorial with 22.

  No Switzerland County athletes were able to bring home blue ribbons, but two of the meet’s athletes with Switzerland County ties did earn first places. Eyan Peelman of Lawrenceburg won the discus with a distance of 148’10 1/2”; and Leon Kinne of Shawe Memorial won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:10.16.

  Zach Howlett finished second for the Pacers in the discus and was third in the shot put; while Keegan Morris finished third in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the 200-meter dash. Cameron Niswander was fourth int he 300-meter intermediate hurdles; Isaac Slover was fifth in the shot put and the discus and also finished sixth int he 110-meter hurdles; and JW Goldsberry was fifth in the 200-meter dash. Scott Blair was eighth in the long jump; and the 1,600-meter relay team finished fourth overall.
