Lady Pacers claim track opener with win


The girls track team from Switzerland County High School opened its season last Thursday by winning a three-way meet over Jac-Cen-Del and Rising Sun.

The Lady Pacers finished with a total of 75 points to outdistance Jac-Cen-Del (48) and Rising Sun (32).

Senior Maggie Armstrong had an outstanding night, winning the long jump with a distance of 14’4″ and the discus with a distance of 86’11”; and was also a part of the blue ribbon winning 400-meter relay team along with Brooke Dickerson, Alexis Carfield, and Andrea Brogan in a time of :58.7.

Andrea Brogan coupled that relay win with a pair of individual titles, as well, winning the 200-meter dash in a time of :30.37; and the 100-meter hurdles in a time of :17.62.

Bre Hinman won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:38.03; Allie Mathews won the 1,600-meter run in a time of 6:19; and Paige Ridener won the 3,200-meter run in a time of 14:30. Carlie Peacock won the shot put with a distance of 29’3″.

Also claiming blue ribbons was the 1,600-meter relay team of Allie Mathews, Bre Hinman, Olivia Hewitt, and Emily White in a time of 4:46; and the 3,200-meter relay team of Taryn Parr, Paige Ridener, Allie Mathews, and Bre Hinman in a time of 11:44.

Second places were earned by Emily White in the 400-meter dash and the long jump; and Katie Hall in the discus.

Finishing third was Emily White in the 100-meter dash; Taryn Parr in the 3,200-meter run; and Olivia Hewitt in the high jump.

Fourth place points were earned by Brooke Dickerson in the 100-meter dash; Alexis Carfield in the 200-meter dash; Moriah McFarland in the 1,600-meter run; Olivia Hewitt in the 100-meter hurdles; and Andrea Brogan in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
