Lady Pacer volleyball splits pair of contests

The Switzerland County varsity volleyball team finishes the week at 1-1, with a loss at home against Milan and a win on the road against Shawe Memorial.

Head Coach Olivia Hewitt said that the Lady Pacers played the games without Junior starting middle, Jaden Harrell, for the week, but anticipate her return next week.

Hewitt highlighted several of her team members for the week:

“Junior Nora Hankins has stepped up tremendously this week. Serving, passing and attacking the ball improved from last week,” Coach Hewitt said. “Senior Brooke Johnson fell into a roll she hasn’t seen yet this year and played amazing. She proved herself in the front row as an attacker and continued to make save after save in the back row to round out a stellar two games for the senior this week.”

The coach also had positive words for her squad as a whole.

“Overall as a team, the girls are improving,” she said. “We closed last week at 1-1 with a tight win against South Dearborn in five sets and a loss at South Ripley in three. Their mental game is improving week to week, which I believe can be given credit in both wins the last two weeks. Against South Dearborn, they rallied for two set wins after losing the first and won the tight fifth set by two in an uncapped set. Then this week, they won in three against a good Shawe team. I think both of those scenarios show how capable they are of overcoming any situation they may find themselves in.”
