The Switzerland County Lady Pacer track team ran and jumped its way to a third place overall finish in the Jeffersonville Sectional, held on Tuesday night.
Highlighting the night for the Lady Pacers were Leah Anders and Aleiah Thomas.
Anders ran to the Sectional Championship in the 800-meter run for the third time; and Thomas also claimed her position as one of the most accomplished high jumpers in the area, as she earned the Sectional title for the third straight time, as well. Both will now advance to the Regional track meet, which will be held this Tuesday, May 21st, at Bloomington North High School.
Other Lady Pacers who had outstanding Sectionals and earned their way to compete in the Regional included Ally Furnish, who came in second overall in the 300-meter hurdles to advance; and the 3,200-meter relay team of Keirstan Oeffinger, Alisha Detmer, Matty Anderson and Anders, which also finished second.
Switzerland County coach Adam Pietrykowski said that especially notable for her effort in the Sectional was Keirstan Oeffinger, who bet her seed and nearly pushed her way onto the podium, finishing fourth place overall in the 800-meter run.
“A team finish of third is quite impressive for the Lady Pacers going against much larger schools in the Jeffersonville Sectional,” Pietrykowski said, “And they once again were the highest placing 1A or 2A school.”
